    Pay Rate: $27.41 per hour

    Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

    About the Position

    We are seeking a creative, organized, and detail-oriented Media & Communications Coordinator to support the development and implementation of public relations, marketing, and media strategies that promote our programs, services, and community initiatives. This role assists senior staff and plays a vital part in strengthening our relationship with residents, media partners, and community organizations.

    This is a full-time, onsite position requiring strong communication skills and demonstrated experience with design tools, including Canva and the Adobe Creative Suite. Candidates must be able to provide a portfolio or examples of previous work.

     

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist senior staff with the development and execution of public relations, marketing, and media strategies.
    • Foster positive working relationships with news media, civic leagues, and community organizations.
    • Develop initiatives, programs, and outreach efforts that inform, engage, and involve citizens.
    • Coordinate the creation, review, and distribution of news releases.
    • Write and design flyers, advertisements, invitations, programs, and other promotional materials.
    • Prepare and disseminate news and updates for civic leagues and service organizations.
    • Plan and coordinate all aspects of city special events, including logistics, equipment, invitations, refreshments, site setup, and handout materials.
    • Support speakers’ bureaus and community presentation efforts.
    • Monitor local news coverage for relevant city issues and topics.
    • Serve in Alpha One status during emergencies, disasters, and inclement weather, ensuring timely and accurate communication with the media.
    • Perform additional duties assigned based on departmental needs and workload

    Required Skills & Qualifications

    • Experience with Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, or similar).
    • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Experience producing marketing or promotional materials.
    • Ability to coordinate events and work effectively with diverse community groups.
    • Must be able to provide examples of previous design and communications work (portfolio, links, or attachments).
    • Experience in government, public information, marketing, or communications roles.
    • Familiarity with media relations and community outreach strategies.
    • Knowledge of local government operations or public service environments.
