Suture Removal: Perform wound checks, apply sterile dressings, and safely remove sutures or staples under provider supervision.

Pathology Tracking: Label, document, and log biopsy tissue specimens accurately, routing them to external pathology labs.

Patient Education: Explain pre-operative preparations, post-procedure wound care instructions, and complex topical medication regimens.

Cosmetic Support: Assist with laser treatments, chemical peels, neurotoxins (Botox), and dermal fillers, ensuring proper pre-and post-care setup.

Rooming & Scribing: Document detailed skin exam findings, lesion locations, and treatment plans in the EHR during patient exams.

Sanitization: Sterilize surgical instruments using autoclaves and maintain strict infection-control standards.

    Administrative Duties

Prior Authorizations: Submit prior authorization requests for specialized specialty medications, biologics, and topical therapies.

Biopsy Results: Call patients with pathology lab results and coordinate follow-up treatment plans as directed by the provider.

Product Inventory: Maintain and restock medical supplies, surgical trays, and clinical retail skincare products.

Compliance: Strictly adhere to all OSHA, HIPAA, and outpatient surgical safety protocols.

    Skills and Qualifications

    Required Education & Certifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent GED.

Training: Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.

Certification: Active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credential.

Life Support: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.

    Experience & Skills

Dermatology Experience: 1+ years of dedicated clinical experience in a dermatology or plastic surgery practice is highly preferred.

Software: Proficiency with dermatology-specific EHR software (e.g., EMA/ModMed, Nextech).

Clinical Knowledge: Familiarity with skin anatomy, dermatologic conditions (acne, psoriasis, eczema, skin cancer), and surgical tools.

Visual Accuracy: Strong observational skills to help accurately locate and chart specific lesions or moles.

Attributes: High emotional intelligence, steady hands, and excellent organizational skills to manage high patient volumes.

    Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly for prolonged periods.

Excellent manual dexterity to manage fine surgical instruments and apply precise dressings.

Strong visual acuity to view close-up skin conditions and work under bright examination lighting.
