Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Medical Assistant to support our physicians and patients in a new endocrinology office. The ideal candidate will thrive in both clinical and administrative roles, with a focus on specialized procedures common in endocrinology care.
Key Responsibilities
Assist physicians with in-office procedures, including thyroid biopsies
MA performed procedures will include placing continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and injecting medications in-office
Room patients, take vital signs, update medical histories, and prepare patients for examinations.
Respond to patient calls, triage inquiries, interact with pharmacies regarding prescriptions, and relay physician responses accurately and empathetically.
Address prior authorization requests for imaging and medications by online or printed form completion and submission
Manage and address e-faxes in electronic health record and faxes from pharmacies/equipment companies/ insurances.
Handle patient check-in and check-out, including verifying insurance, collecting payments, and managing paperwork.
Schedule appointments and coordinate follow-ups, referrals, and diagnostic testing.
Turn over exam rooms between patients to ensure efficient clinic flow and cleanliness.
Perform additional clinical tasks such as point-of-care glucose testing, and patient education on diabetes management and devices.
Maintain accurate electronic health records (Athena) and comply with HIPAA regulations.
Possible scribing in electronic health records (Athena) for physician
Providing limited education to patients about newly prescribed medications and use of other therapies
Qualifications
Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred.
At least 1 year of experience in a medical office setting; experience in endocrinology, diabetes care, or internal medicine is a plus.
Familiarity with thyroid procedures, CGMs, insulin pumps, or diabetes management highly desirable.
Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask in a patient-focused environment.
Proficient in EHR systems and basic computer skills.
Current BLS certification preferred.
Willingness to learn and passion for education is a must
