Job Summary:
The Dermatology Medical Assistant works closely with Physicians and Physician Assistants to provide patient care and support. The medical assistant's primary responsibility is to assist the dermatologist during patient appointments and procedures, and to ensure that all patient records and documentation are accurate and up to date.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare examination rooms and equipment for patient appointments, ensuring that all instruments and supplies are properly sterilized and organized.
Greet patients, obtain medical histories, and assist with the completion of intake forms and other paperwork.
Assist the dermatologist during patient examinations and procedures, including but not limited to biopsies, excisions, and laser treatments.
Prepare and apply topical medications, dressings, and bandages as directed by the provider.
Collect and process specimens for laboratory testing and analysis.
Maintain accurate and complete patient records, including medical histories, test results, and treatment plans. -Scribe during each patient visit accurately
Provide patient education and support, including information about skin care, disease prevention, and treatment options. -Communicate pathology and lab results to patients and schedule future visits
Communicate effectively with patients, family members, and other medical staff to ensure that all parties are informed of the patient's progress and treatment plan.
Perform basic administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, and managing patient files.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant or nursing assistant training program preferred.
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a medical or dermatology setting, with specific experience in dermatology preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, family members, and medical staff.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.
Experience with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and other medical software preferred.
