Roots, Inc. dba Roots Through Recovery is seeking a compassionate, organized, and detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to support our clinical team in an outpatient behavioral health setting. This role is a key part of ensuring smooth patient flow, accurate documentation, and strong coordination between patients and providers.
This position is ideal for a Medical Assistant who enjoys both patient interaction and behind-the-scenes coordination, and who wants to work as part of a mission-driven healthcare organization.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Support
Greet and room patients; take and record vital signs
Prepare patients for appointments and assist with basic clinical workflows
Observe and report patient concerns or changes to appropriate clinical staff
Maintain a calm, supportive, and professional presence with patients
Scheduling & Care Coordination
Schedule and confirm patient appointments
Coordinate schedules with providers and clinical staff
Communicate with patients regarding appointments, follow-ups, and logistics
Support continuity of care through timely coordination and follow-through
Documentation & Administrative Support
Accurately document patient information and encounters in the electronic health record (EHR)
Ensure charts are complete, organized, and up to date
Assist with tracking referrals, orders, and provider requests
Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies
Team Support
Collaborate closely with clinicians, providers, and administrative staff
Support clinic operations to ensure efficient daily workflow
Perform other related duties as assigned within scope of practice
Qualifications
Required
Medical Assistant (MA) certificate or equivalent training; certified and licensed nurses (CNA or LVN) are welcome to apply
Experience in a clinical or healthcare setting
Strong organizational and communication skills
Comfort working with electronic health records
Ability to multitask and manage a fast-paced environment
Preferred
Experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or outpatient care
Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
Familiarity with care coordination or scheduling in a clinical setting
