Medical Assistant - Vascular Outpatient, Surgical Associates, Suitland, MD
Surgical Associates is seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Assistant to join our Vascular Outpatient team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing essential support to our providers and ensuring excellent patient care in a fast-paced outpatient setting. This position involves a combination of clinical and administrative tasks to optimize patient flow and enhance our vascular services. You will also assist in Hospital Scheduling and Intake.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care:
- Assist with patient intake, including taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and preparing patients for examinations.
- Help physicians with procedures and treatments specific to vascular care, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Educate patients on pre- and post-operative care instructions as directed by the physician.
- Clinical Duties:
- Operate and maintain medical equipment used in vascular assessments (e.g., Doppler ultrasound, ABI testing).
- Perform drawing blood, collecting specimens, and conducting basic lab tests as required.
- Administer medications and immunizations as directed by the supervising physician.
- Administrative Support:
- Manage patient scheduling, ensuring timely appointments and efficient patient flow.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic health records (EHR) and documentation.
- Handle patient Intake and assist in Hospital Scheduling.
- Patient Interaction:
- Serve as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers, addressing any concerns or questions they may have.
- Maintain a warm and welcoming environment for patients and families.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the vascular surgical team to coordinate care and support patient follow-ups.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in a medical assistant role, preferably in a vascular or surgical outpatient setting, is highly desirable. Experience with Hospital Scheduling a plus.
- Certifications:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
- Current CPR and First Aid certifications required.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and procedures related to vascular care.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work well with a diverse patient population.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities, with a focus on attention to detail.
