We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized individual to join our team as a Medical Billing Clerk. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately processing medical billing claims and ensuring timely reimbursement from insurance companies. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to navigate billing software efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Review and verify patient demographic and insurance information for accuracy.
- Prepare and submit electronic or paper claims to insurance companies.
- Follow up on unpaid or rejected claims and resubmit as necessary.
- Resolve billing discrepancies and denials by communicating with insurance companies and patients.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Generate and send patient statements for outstanding balances.
- Process payments, reconcile accounts, and update billing records accordingly.
- Assist patients with billing inquiries and provide explanations of charges.
- Stay informed about insurance billing regulations and coding updates.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate documentation and billing practices.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or certification in medical billing preferred.
- Previous experience in medical billing or healthcare administration is preferred.
- Proficiency in using billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle billing-related inquiries professionally.
- Familiarity with insurance billing regulations, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
