Cullman Internal Medicine is seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join our team!
The Billing Specialist is responsible for managing key components of the revenue cycle, including charge entry, payment posting, and accounts receivable (AR) follow-up, in addition to standard billing functions. This role ensures timely and accurate claim submission, payment reconciliation, and resolution of outstanding balances in compliance with payer guidelines and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform accurate and timely charge entry for professional services based on provider documentation and coding guidelines
Post insurance and patient payments, adjustments, and denials with a high degree of accuracy
Reconcile daily deposits and ensure alignment between posted payments and bank reports
Conduct AR follow-up on outstanding claims, including contacting insurance carriers to resolve unpaid or underpaid claims
Review and correct claim rejections and denials, identifying root causes and trends
Submit corrected claims and appeals as necessary, ensuring proper documentation is maintained
Verify patient insurance information and eligibility when needed to support billing accuracy
Work aging reports and prioritize accounts based on payer requirements and timely filing limits
Communicate effectively with payers, patients, and internal staff regarding billing issues
Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA and Alabama Medicaid policies
Assist with month-end closing processes and reporting as assigned
Collaborate with coding and clinical staff to resolve discrepancies in documentation or billing
THIS POSITION IS FULLY ON-SITE IN CULLMAN, ALABAMA M-F 8-5
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree/certficate in healthcare administration or related field preferred
Minimum of 2 years of medical billing experience, including charge entry, payment posting, and AR follow-up preferred
Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding principles
Familiarity with Medicare, Alabama Medicaid, and commercial payer guidelines
Experience with EMR/PM systems (e.g., eClinicalWorks, SystemedX, or similar)
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Work Environment:
Office-based healthcare setting in Cullman, Alabama
May require extended periods of sitting and computer use
Standard business hours with occasional overtime based on billing cycles
