Position Overview
AKIVA is seeking a Medical Equipment Planner to support the VA Long Beach Healthcare System Engineering Service Planning Section under the Interior Design Section. • Analyze architectural drawings, equipment schedules, and electrical and data plans; identify overlaps and gaps between proposed equipment and the designed space
• Perform existing equipment inventory audits, value/cost analysis, and comparative equipment studies; produce reuse analysis reports with recommendations based on VA guidelines
• Coordinate, plan, document, and schedule the move of existing equipment in conjunction with procurement and installation of new equipment
• Administer and oversee medical equipment planning budgets, standards, and specifications across VALBHS major construction projects
• Produce procurement packages following VA contracting standards including SOW, technical specifications, attachments, documentation, drawings, IGCEs, bid sheets, and budgets
• Maintain the digital resource library of drawings, plans, specification procurement documents, project correspondence, and binders related to major project equipment planning
• Provide training and education to medical technology end users and clinical staff during move-in; coordinate with the VA Biomedical Department and Logistics to document products into the Equipment Information Library
• Maintain functional knowledge of safety codes and standards including The Joint Commission (TJC), NFPA, FDA, NRC, and AAMI
• Serve as technical representative for equipment specification matters; coordinate with FMS, OIT, Patient Safety, Sterile Processing Service (SPS), Logistics, Contracting, Informatics, EMS, Biomedical Technicians, and end users
Required Qualifications
• Demonstrated knowledge of the state of the art in medical technology including scientific advances, network protocols, and vendor changes
• Ability to write equipment specifications and Statements of Work for medical equipment procurement
• Ability to review and interpret blueprints and specifications
• Experience creating and maintaining procurement collateral using the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Working knowledge of TJC, NFPA, FDA, NRC, and AAMI standards
• Effective written and verbal communication with contractors, management officials, vendors, Contracting Officers, and VA Long Beach staff
