Job Title: Medical Lab Assistant

Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Lab Assistant to join our team at Garden County Health Services. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting laboratory operations by assisting in the preparation, processing, and analysis of specimens. This position requires a strong emphasis on accuracy, communication, and a commitment to patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the collection, processing, and labeling of biological samples, including blood, urine, and tissue specimens.
- Perform and document routine laboratory tests and procedures under the supervision of licensed laboratory personnel.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring that all instruments are calibrated and functioning properly.
- Prepare samples for analysis and transport them to appropriate departments as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory workspace, following safety protocols and infection control guidelines.
- Assist in inventory management of laboratory supplies and reagents, including ordering and restocking as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards, including HIPAA and OSHA guidelines.
- Record and report test results accurately and promptly, communicating any discrepancies or abnormal findings to the supervising staff.
- Provide excellent customer service when interacting with patients and healthcare staff, addressing inquiries and concerns professionally.
- Participate in continuing education and training sessions to enhance laboratory skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree or certification in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience in a medical laboratory setting is a plus, but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques and safety protocols.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR) is desirable.
- Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and with professionalism.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to lift and move laboratory supplies and equipment as needed.
- Manual dexterity for handling instruments and samples.
Work Environment:
- The position typically involves working in a laboratory environment with exposure to biohazardous materials, chemicals, and laboratory equipment.
