    Job Overview

    We are a growing retina office committed to providing exceptional care to our patients. We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal diseases and are seeking an ophthalmic scribe to join our dynamic and fast-paced team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented and efficient individual who thrives in a high-stress environment while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.

    Scribes assist our doctor with charting and documentation of eye exam findings and diagnoses in real time as the physician is performing their examination and assists with in office procedures, oversees clinic flow, provides patient education, obtains informed consents, and other applicable duties listed below. We are looking for someone who pays close attention to detail and is able to effectively multitask, manage time, and prioritize tasks. You will work closely with our medical team to ensure seamless patient care and timely documentation. The ideal candidate will be someone who excels under pressure, manages time effectively, and adapts quickly to changing situations.

    Job Duties:

    Accurately document exam findings and diagnoses in the electronic medical record during the physician’s examination, being sure all requirements are met

    Document treatment plans and follow up instructions in the EMR using templates created by the physician

    Handle multiple patients simultaneously while maintaining high-quality documentation

    Educate patients on their instructions (whether it is postoperative, post-injection, or eye drop instructions) and answer patient questions when appropriate or defer to physician expertise if unable

    Facilitate continuity of care by submitting (and following up on) outgoing referrals and creating letters to referring doctors and primary care providers

    Advise technicians on triaging new patients with time sensitive diagnoses or established patients with new symptoms

    Assist the front desk and technicians with clinical questions

    Facilitate patient flow by effectively overseeing the technicians and ensuring that each technician is working up patients correctly and efficiently

    Act as a proxy for the physician by answering questions from staff or patients based on existing treatment plans or diagnoses when the physician is not available. This does not include submitting new prescriptions, diagnosing patients, or making clinical/medical decisions without the knowledge or direction of the physician

    Obtain written, informed, consent from patients for upcoming procedures when requested by the physician or prior to scheduled office tests/procedures

    Review chart notes to confirm treatment plan, medication instructions, postoperative instructions, or other clinical findings in order to accurately answer questions or complete paperwork regarding a patient’s diagnosis and treatment

    Stay updated with retina-related terminology, procedures, and medical advancements

    Skills

    Attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and documentation

    Ability to work effectively in a team environment

    Proficiency in computer applications (e.g., EHR systems, Google docs/sheets, electronic data capture systems)

    Ability to work a fast paced environment

    OSHA and HIPAA compliant

    Requirements:

    High School Diploma or GED equivalent required

    Experience with ophthalmic practices and diagnoses’ strongly encouraged

    Experience with ophthalmic scribing is preferred, but OSC is not required

    Familiarity with HIPAA practices.

    Must be detail oriented, organized, and able to multitask

    Must be patient care oriented
