    About the Role

    We are seeking experienced, certified Phlebotomists to provide on-site laboratory services at the VA Maine Healthcare System (Togus VA Medical Center) in Augusta, Maine. This is a long-term, full-time federal contract position with a one-year base period and four one-year renewal options — offering outstanding job stability for the right candidates.

    You will serve the men and women who have served our country, performing phlebotomy, specimen processing, and send-out preparation in a fully equipped inpatient and outpatient laboratory setting.

    Pay Rates

    Daytime (0900–1730) $26.00/hr

    Evening (1500–2330) $28.00/hr

    Weekend / Holiday $30.00/hr

    Shift Schedule

    • 2 FTE Day Shift: 0900–1730
    • 2 FTE Evening Shift: 1500–2330
    • Rotating weekends approximately 1–2 per month (day or evening)
    • Weekend day shift: 0600–1400 | Weekend evening shift: 1330–2100
    • No on-call or standby duties required
    • Federal holidays observed

    Responsibilities

    • Perform patient phlebotomy including inpatient ward rounds, outpatient, Emergency Department (ED), STAT, ASAP, and timed draws
    • Perform sample processing and send-out specimen preparation
    • Positively identify patients prior to sample collection
    • Document and resolve collection, processing, testing, or reporting issues
    • Complete QA/QC documentation in accordance with laboratory quality plan
    • Safeguard electronic and paper patient information in compliance with HIPAA
    • Deliver patient-centered care that meets VA and Joint Commission standards

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum 3 years of recent phlebotomy experience
    • Phlebotomy certification from ASCP, AMT, NPA, or equivalent accredited agency
    • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently
    • Must pass VA Tier 1 background investigation
    • Must complete VA credentialing and privileging process prior to first shift
    • Must not appear on HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities
    • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
