We’re looking for a Medical Treatment Coordinator with the skills of a vet tech, the heart of an advocate, and the urgency of an ER nurse. If you're driven by a mission to heal and thrive in a fast-paced, emotionally charged environment where every animal matters, this role is your calling.
Why This Role Matters
Animals in critical condition rely on you to carry out their treatment plans with precision, compassion, and speed. From managing medications to monitoring chronic cases to ensuring the accuracy of medical records, your vigilance will keep animals on track—and give them the future they deserve.
What You’ll Do
- Run daily treatment and medication rounds for AM, Mid-Day, and PM cycles
- Monitor and administer care for animals with chronic, post-op, or specialty treatment needs
- Track medication inventory, oversee usage of controlled substances, and ensure DEA compliance
- Perform and document medical rounds—identifying concerns before they become crises
- Maintain accurate treatment records in Pet Point and escalate ineffective plans promptly
- Support intake/foster/adoption staff by educating them on treatment plans for outgoing animals
- Communicate daily shift updates to the Shelter DVM, Medical Treatment Manager, and team
- Train new team members and support surgical/intake teams as needed
You’re the Ideal Candidate If You Have
- Veterinary technician experience
- Experience of medical tasks like giving sub-Q fluids, placing catheters, drawing blood, and more
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to track complex cases over time
- Experience in shelter medicine, animal handling, and contagious illness protocols
- An unwavering ability to stay calm, composed, and compassionate—even during critical care cases
- Computer proficiency with software like Pet Point, Excel, and digital records
- The physical and emotional stamina to work 10+ hour days in a high-energy, high-stakes space
This Job Requires:
- Fast reactions, sharp instincts, and steady hands
- The ability to read medical instruments, handwritten instructions, and act without delay
- A calm presence with both fearful animals and emotional people
Why Join HSHC?
- Be part of a nationally recognized, no-kill shelter
- Make a tangible difference in the lives of animals every single shift
- Work alongside a supportive, passionate team of professionals who get it
- Robust benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, generous PTO
- Pet perks: diagnostics, meds, and supplies for your own pets—at cost or free
