    Systems Safety applies engineering and management principles, criteria, and techniques to achieve acceptable mishap risk, within the constraints of operational effectiveness and suitability, time, and cost throughout all phases of the system life cycle. The fundamental objective is to identify, eliminate or mitigate, and document systems hazards. Performs system safety analyses of hardware, firmware, and software in a variety of systems including weapons, ordnance, and combat systems.

    Duties include preparing and/or updating safety assessment reports and hazard assessment reports. Reviewing and analyzing system safety management and program plans, safety analyses, accident and incident data, mishap investigation reports, safety test plans and results, and other ESOH related data. Performing operational analyses and studies to identify potential deficiencies in weapon operating procedures, ordnance handling procedures, stowage or other logistics phases involving ordnance, casualty procedures, etc. and making specific recommendations for their resolution.

    Responsibilities:

    • Prepare/update Safety Assessment Reports.
    • Prepare/review/update Technical Data Packages and Presentation Materials in support of Safety Review Board Reviews including the Weapon System Explosive Safety Review Board (WSESRB), Software Systems Safety Technical Review Panel (SSSTRP) and Fuse & Initiation Systems Technical Review Panel (FISTRP).
    • Review System Requirements documentation to identify potentially hazardous conditions and make recommendations to system design in collaboration with program staff.
    • Perform operational analysis to identify potential deficiencies in operating procedures, training documentation, maintenance procedures, storage, and handling procedures, and/or ordnance handling procedures.
    • Review and make recommendations to test plans to ensure safety requirements are met.
    • Assess Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and other system change requests to identify/verify safety risks.
    • Collaborate with government vendors during the development of weapons systems.

    Experience Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s Degree or five (5) years or more experience.
    • Experience conducting System Engineering Analysis, System Safety Analysis, Risk Management and/or Hazard Analysis
    • Experience with MIL-STD 882E
    • Experience working with US Navy combat systems, launchers, or ammunition.
    • Experience operating, maintaining, testing, or analyzing weapons systems or complex mechanical or software systems especially those mentioned above

    Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, the candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

    Required Skills
