    IDQ has an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineer supporting our corporate headquarters in Bloomington, MN.  The Data Engineer works with a team of skilled Analysts to develop and manage data pipelines and model automation. This position will work closely with our Data Analytics team to design, build, and maintain the computational infrastructure to support the business intelligence platform.  

    This position plans, designs, and optimizes for data throughput and query performance issues. This requires constantly updating expertise in areas such as platform, network and storage technologies, bandwidth management, data bus implications, and design. Additionally, this position plays a key role in the selection of backend database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, HPC, etc.), their configuration and utilization, and the optimization of the full data pipeline infrastructure to support the actual content, volume, ETL, and periodicity of data to support the intended kinds of queries and analysis to match expected responsiveness.  This position also participates in a variety of higher-level and/or cross-functional team projects, including the planning, design and implementation of new/updates to existing Cloud components, authentication and end user/endpoint security.

    Key Accountabilities Include:

    SYSTEMS ENGINEERING & ADMINISTRATION

    • Design, architect, and document the database schema and data pipelines
    • Design, implement, and test data collection, storage, and mapping procedures
    • Research, design, and test computational environments to support analytical modeling (statistics, machine learning, optimization, and simulation)
    • Develop statistical models for data quality assurance and data imputation
    • Write, optimize, and automate data processing tasks
    • Deploy and maintain system and database monitoring tools
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

     MAINTENANCE & PROJECTS

    • Creation and refinement of standards for the Data Practice, including data ingestion, data governance, request process, testing/QA, etc.
    • Management and maintenance of the Data Analytics environment, Cloud integrated applications and application delivery infrastructure
    • Maintain central repository/code base for production code (e.g. GitHub)
    • Maintain technical documentation for solutions and standard operating procedures such that services are delivered in an efficient and effective manner
    • Manage multifaceted and technically sophisticated projects and on-going operations
    • Meet project and task deadlines

     

    SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

    • Continually look to improve and refine the IS data services delivered to the business, globally
    • Maintain knowledge of emerging technology
    • Help define and meet SLA requirements for analytics components
    • Contribute deep technical skills, and industry experience and best practices to the rest of the team, driving change
    • Embrace agile methodology for iterative development

     

    COMMUNICATION & COLLABORATION

    • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with people at all organizational levels
    • Work in a team environment making positive contributions to the organization
    • Establish and maintain effective relationships with staff members, customers, and vendors

    Required Skills

    • Advanced SQL development skills and an in-depth understanding of database technologies
    • Minimum 5 years of experience with Python, Bash, and other scripting languages
    • Experience with cloud infrastructure and distributed computing
    • Familiarity with large-scale analytics systems
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Strong written and oral communication skills

     

    Required Experience

    • B.S. or M.S. in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical field
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in cloud-based ETL architecture/development, implementation and support
