Afterschool care for autistic teen in Park Slope, Brooklyn
Seeking after-school care for a 14-year-old boy with autism and ADHD. Our fun-loving teen is minimally verbal and enjoys a playful companion. Technically, this position is called Community Rehabilitation and will involve taking care of him at home and to and from various activities. We are a family of four living in the south part of Park Slope. Job hours: 3pm - 6pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work if you are available. Pay: $25/hr, through an agency called Hand in Hand (on the books). Responsibilities: - Taking him off the school bus on most days, and bringing him inside safely. - Offering snacks and light dinner meal prep - Weekly laundry (folding only) - Several times a week picking him up at his school (in downtown Brooklyn) and taking the subway with him to a class, and then home. - Occasional community outings such as going to the library or the store. Needed: - Experience working with teens. - Experience caring for someone with autism. (Even if it's with your little autistic cousin... that counts!) - Ability to work on the books - (Preferred) sense of NYC subways Only those with experience working with autistic people will be considered seriously for this position!
