    Job Description

    The RN Clinical Leader (RN-CL) is a Registered Nurse who is an integral member of the Maternal Newborn Service (MNS) leadership team.  Under the direction of the MNS Director, the RN-CL works closely and collaboratively with MNS leadership team to develop and sustain an environment that promotes a culture of excellence, including excellence in clinical practice, quality, safety, professional practice, patient and family centered care, patient engagement and satisfaction, and healthy work environments.

    The RN-CL strives to promote, implement, and sustain optimal clinical, operational, education and training, and organizational outcomes.

    EDUCATION:

    Current Massachusetts state RN license in good standing required.  Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required. Master’s degree in Nursing preferred. BLS and NRP required.

    EXPERIENCE:

    Minimum of 3 years nursing experience required.

    The RN-CL has a track record of clinical excellence, interprofessional collaboration and teamwork, professionalism, and leadership, and is highly respected by the entire MWH interprofessional team. The RN-CL supports, communicates, and participates in the work of the MNS leadership team and is highly committed to his/her MNS teammates and the future success of the MNS and MWH.

    Communication:  The RN-CL demonstrates excellent communication skills, including the ability to listen, receive feedback openly, and express information and ideas in a thoughtful and effective manner.  The RN-CL keeps all members of the team up to date on relevant information and communicates routinely and collaboratively with the MNS Director, Clinical Managers, and members of the MNS leadership team.

     Attitude: The RN-CL demonstrates kindness, helpfulness, openness, positivity, flexibility, and an optimistic approach to change, workplace challenges, and workplace stressors.

    Positive Professional Relationships: The RN-CL demonstrates and models the ability to build positive and trusting professional relationships with nurses, physicians, MNS team members, and the MWH community. 

    High Performance Teamwork:  The RN-CL demonstrates the ability to build and lead high performance teamwork, particularly in the dynamic and challenging clinical setting.  The CNL leads and participates in team building activities and retreats, both in the hospital setting and in settings outside the workplace.

    Self-Starter / Leader: The RN-CL is a self-starter, and above all a leader by example.  The RN-CL demonstrates internal motivation, drive, passion, and accountability for their work, and they positively impact their patients, team, and MWH. The RN-CL anticipates needs and possesses the skills and abilities to organize, prioritize, to develop and implement creative and innovative solutions and to lead change and transformation.  The RN-CL creates value for the entire MNS interprofessional team, MNS patients, and MWH.

    Change Agent:  The RN-CL serves as a change agent and unit champion on the departmental and system levels.  The RN-CL identifies and communicates clinical, operational, educational, and professional gaps and needs in the maternal newborn services to the MNS leadership team.  The RN-CL recommends, develops, implements, and monitors, the processes, policies, programs, and initiatives that are aimed at improvements in safety, efficiency, effectiveness, and clinical and operational outcomes.
