    Job Description

    CONDUCTS PSYCHIATRIC ASSESSMENT FOR PATIENTS AS NECESSARY/REQUESTED.

    • Triages patients to other clinical services based on assessment.
    • Utilizes the psychiatric administrator-on-call and the on-call psychiatrist for clinical support and recommendations, and involves psychiatrist in psychiatrically and/or medically complicated cases.
    • Provides support/intervention with family members and collaterals of patients seen in the ED.
    • Assists in or conducts bed searches to facilitate patient placement.

    DEMONSTRATES CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS, GOOD JUDGEMENT, DECISION-MAKING ABILITY, RESOURCEFULNESS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS

    • Maintains contact with ED staff to ensure timely and responsive assistance in managing flow of behavioral health patients.
    • Uses self flexibly and in a supportive fashion to assist ED staff.
    • Demonstrates clinically sound and appropriate recommendations and disposition plans.

    ADAPTS TO AND IMPLEMENTS CHANGES.

    • Accepts changes in assignments with a positive attitude.
    • Assists others in assuming assignments, which are being transferred to them.
    • Responds in a timely fashion to requests/pages from ED.
    • Responds in a helpful and constructive manner to requests from the ER and AOC.

    PLANS AND ORGANIZES

    • Ensures necessary insurance authorizations are in place prior to service delivery or transfer to another level of care.
    • Documents assessments and outcome/recommendations at time of service delivery.
    • Manages workload in a productive and efficient manner.
    • Submits charges for services provided within time frame.

    GATHERS AND USES INFORMATION

    • Maintains log of contacts, tracks and collects data on services provided.
    • Is knowledgeable and seeks out information about available community resources.
    • Verifies insurance eligibility and documents. Uses this information to make appropriate decisions regarding status of active cases and consults.

    TEAMWORK AND COLLABORATION

    • Builds and maintains productive and positive working relationships with co-workers.
    • Provides education, support and direction to medical staff to improve/facilitate care of behavioral health patients.
    • Communicates effectively with involved staff regarding status of active cases and consults.
    • Demonstrates initiative that is positive and productive.
    • Is able to handle conflict, give and take criticism.

    • Shows commitment to meeting the needs of customers, both internal and external.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION:

    • Master of SW and LICSW required. Master of Psychology and LMHC will be considered.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum of 2 years of experience post-advanced licensure in crisis intervention, psychiatric assessment and evaluation.

    SKILLS/ABILITIES:

    • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and diagnoses, familiarity with psychopharmacology and common medications for medical diagnosis. Good verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
