About the Role
The Membership Campaigns Organizer will lead the development of Black Vision’s membership by cultivating authentic, care-based relationships with interested individuals and designing and implementing community engagement activities that connect them to Black Visions. Working alongside teammates, the Membership Campaigns Organizer will help support and sustain members’ involvement in our various campaigns for Black liberation and LGBTQIA justice.
Black Visions is a membership-based organization, which means our members help govern, make important policy decisions, and play a large role in steering the campaigns we run throughout Minnesota.
The ideal person for this role is self-motivated and will help bring together and galvanize individuals to solve common problems; meet shared needs; and create awareness and support of Black Visions programs, trainings, and events, especially those supporting Black people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, or asexual (LGBTQIA).
This role will be managed by the Membership Manager and work in collaboration with the Membership Programs Organizer to grow the Black Visions membership.

Black Visions is a Black-led, Queer and Trans centering organization whose mission is to organize powerful, connected Black communities and dismantle systems of violence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Community Outreach and Movement Ecosystem Building
Build strategic and deep relationships with partner organizations and their staff
Assist with the development of training coalition partners, sharing relevant information, and helping moving partners move in alignment with the mission of Black Visions
Attend community events on behalf of Black Visions, especially those supporting Black LGBTQIA in Minnesota’s Black neighborhoods
Recruit potential members through consistent outreach, direct engagement, and hosting information sessions
Collaborate with movement partners and table at local events to promote Black Visions
Implement direct outreach & recruitment tactics (door knocks, phonebanks, community events, etc.) for campaigns in conjunction with organizing staff
Membership Engagement
Be available and accessible to all Members during your scheduled hours
Know all of the Members assigned to you by name, pronouns, and face
Be informed of Black Visions policies and able to instruct Members regarding the proper protocols and procedures supporting our Black queer feminist workplace culture
Cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships with members through 1-1 conversations, regular engagement, and intentional follow up
Learn about members’s passions, organizing interests, and areas of growth to link them to relevant opportunities
Member Development
Develop and implement strategies to engage Black Visions members meaningfully in our campaigns, programs, and various projects as both participants and leaders
Develop members’ leadership capacity through designing and leading political education curriculum and relevant trainings
Connect members to other community organizations, events, and opportunities to build and deepen ecosystem connections
Membership Team & Program Support
Work closely with the Membership Programs Organizer to create and conduct orientation programming for new members as well as regular membership meetings
Make a strong commitment to attend all Member meetings and events
Communicate with members and potential members via database, email, social media, and direct phone call alongside communications, campaigns staff, and other membership staff
Coordinate annual membership retreat and end-of-year celebration with the Membership Manager and Membership Programs Organizer
Other duties as assigned
Teamwork and Collaboration (shared with all other staff members)
Join weekly All Staff meetings, Program Staff Pod meetings, and Campaign Staff Pod meetings
Develop agendas, facilitate meetings, and handle follow-up as needed.
Support the Abolitionist movement ecosystem fighting for Black liberation in Minnesota.
Share work with others on staff while respecting delegated levels of authority.
Participate in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of staff trainings and events as well as All Hands Deck (AHOD) Moments
Use our resources in ways that comply with local, state, and federal law, as well as, the moral principles of environmental justice and resource stewardship
Other duties as assigned by staff pod
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications include…
Steadfast commitment to the collective liberation of all Black people
2+ years experience leading, supporting, and organizing community engagement efforts
Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as emotional intelligence
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
Demonstrated experience planning and executing events
Ability to work well both individually and on a team
Basic computer and internet literacy
Our ideal candidate will have…
Experience organizing in Black and LGBTQIA communities
Experience canvassing and doorknocking
Familiarity with data entry and database management
An outgoing and positive personality
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position may require walking or standing for long periods of time during events or outreach initiatives. It may also involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage. Work is often performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and lifting or carrying light objects frequently.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Black Visions is a hybrid workplace. Our physical location is in Minneapolis, MN. All Black Visions staff must have a home address in Minnesota.
UNION
This position is under the Black Visions Union, affiliated with CWA Local 7200.
SALARY
Annual base salary is $65,915/year.
A cost of living adjustment is enacted once every year equal to the rate of inflation or higher.
