BASIC FUNCTIONS:

• The CRNA is responsible for the administration of anesthesia employing a variety of techniques to render persons insensible to pain during a variety of surgical, dental, obstetric, and diagnostic procedures.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and assist in identification of alternative strategies.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, neonate through geriatrics.
• Assess and interpret data reflective of the patient’s status and provide care relative to their age-specific needs in accordance with the department’s policies, procedures, and standards of care.
• CRNA is medically directed by an anesthesiologist and works in a collaborative team approach to improve quality, safety, and control costs. Serve as clinical mentor for Student Nurse Anesthetists.
• Administer & monitor general anesthesia or monitored sedation.
• Proficient in airway management including mechanical ventilation.
• Placement of peripheral intravenous catheters.
• Pre-anesthesia evaluation.
• Post anesthesia care/discharge.
• Evaluate laboratory & diagnostic studies.
• Proficient in pain management.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development principles, from neonate to geriatrics.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, neonate through geriatrics

REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE:

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse in State of Illinois.
• Completed AANA approved course in Anesthesia. Masters degree required.
• Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist or new graduate who is eligible for certification.
• AHA Healthcare Provider BLS and ACLS certification required.
• NRP certification required before completing their orientation period.

Required Skills Required Experience

1. Bachelors Degree in Nursing required.
2. CNOR preferred.
3. Formal training in customer service is preferred.
4. Current Texas RN License.
5. Minimum of three (3) years healthcare management/supervisory experience, required.
6. Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in operating room circulation, required.
7. BLS & ACLS required.  PALS to be obtained within six months of start date.
8. Knowledge of DSHS, CMS and Joint Commission requirements as appropriate.
