    Job Description

    We are seeking a Social Media Specialist to join our team at the Memphis Chess Club!

    Founded in 1877, we are one of the oldest chess clubs in the United States. From dusty church basements to downtown high-rises, we’ve always found interesting places to meet over the board. Today, we're proud to serve our community with premium coffee, locally-sourced food, and of course our perpetual love of the Royal Game. RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Represent the company with integrity, energy, and enthusiasm
    • Relentlessly market the club on the club's various social media accounts with a heavy emphasis on video marketing
    • Ensure that all programming is a first-rate experience for all customers & members
    • Communicate clearly all programming, events, and general club news to the public
    • Direct the club's public relations campaigns, issue press releases, and foster strategic alliances with like-minded individuals, groups, initiatives, and companies
    • Communicate daily with cafe staff and develop marketing campaign & strategies that boost cafe sales
    • REGULARLY WORK SHIFTS IN THE CAFE, BEING KNOWLEDGEABLE ON ALL FOH & BOH ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES. MUST BE WILLING AND ABLE TO PERFORM BARISTA/CASHIER ROLE AND ASSIST IN THE KITCHEN/ ROUTINE CLEANING OPERATIONS.
    • Drive cafe, events, and membership sales & meet sales goals through advertising and retention of current customers
    • Register new attendees for events & guide the overall programming processes
    • Work closely with & train our instructors to ensure that we are providing fun & WORTHWHILE services to our customers
    • Continuously build instructor pool to ensure that backups are always available
    • Discover & implement new ways to make all of our programs fun & memorable
    • Organize & schedule events in ways that maximize overall sales potential
    • Provide team members with on-going training on our membership management software to boost sales by making the membership joining process as easy as possible
    • Design all printed materials including merchandise, business cards & other promotional materials
    • Maintain club aesthetics, including updating print menu boards, holiday decor, merch displays, TV's & sound systems, etc.
    • Facilitate the leasing and/or general use of our facilities with outside groups to drive sales

    ​QUALIFICATIONS:

    • College Degree
    • Warm & welcoming personality
    • Ability to speak & write using proper grammar
    • Thorough knowledge of Squarespace, MailChimp, and other social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube and Twitch
    • Digital design experience
    • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
    • Strong communication and presentation skills
    • Ability to connect with children and parents
    • Capable of working self-sufficiently

    ​MISCELLANEOUS:

    • Nights & Weekend hours are associated with this position. Your schedule is likely to vary.
    • Some knowledge of the game of chess is preferred, yet not required

    Company Description

    We are one of the oldest chess clubs in the United States, and our past members and visitors have included national and even world champions – but you don’t have to be a Grandmaster to play. Beginners and experts alike are welcome to join us for casual games as well as serious matches. Our state-of-the art tournament hall hosts events on weekends and weekday evenings. Boards, pieces, and all other equipment are provided, and members can always find a friendly game and historic inspiration in our beautiful cafe and mezzanine.
