JOB DESCRIPTION
Field Placement and Practicum: Master's level clinical intern position — Counseling and Social Work students welcome.
Sunset Counseling Services is accepting applications for a Master's Level Clinical Intern to join our outpatient therapy and counseling team. This practicum and field placement opportunity is designed for graduate students in their second year of a Master's program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related behavioral health field. You will gain supervised, hands-on clinical experience in an outpatient setting while contributing to meaningful client care. All intern services are provided on-site from our office, and individual and group clinical supervision are provided in person.
POSITION OVERVIEW
As a clinical intern, you will develop and refine your therapeutic skills under the guidance of licensed clinicians. Your estimated weekly time commitment will be approximately 17 to 21 hours, structured as follows:
- A minimum of 12 to 15 face-to-face clinical hours per week providing individual, couples, group, and/or family therapy sessions using evidence-based treatment approaches
- Approximately 4 to 5 hours per week dedicated to clinical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plan development, and required recordkeeping
- 1 hour per week participating in a team clinical consultation meeting to support skill development, case collaboration, and clinical growth
CLINICAL FOCUS
Our agency serves children, adolescents, adults, and couples. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work with the populations and presenting concerns that best align with your clinical interests and training goals. Our highest areas of clinical need include anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. Please note that we are not a substance abuse treatment facility and do not provide services where substance use is the primary diagnosis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct individual, couples, group, and/or family therapy sessions grounded in evidence-based approaches under clinical supervision
- Collaborate with clients throughout the treatment planning process, actively involving them in setting therapeutic goals appropriate to their presenting concerns
- Develop, implement, and maintain individualized treatment plans tailored to each client's needs, with regular review and updates guided by supervisory feedback
- Build and maintain a caseload of 12 to 15 direct client contact hours weekly, ensuring continuity of care throughout the internship placement
- Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with organizational, ethical, and regulatory standards
- Participate in weekly clinical consultation meetings and additional training opportunities offered by the practice
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in the second year of a Master's program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related field
- Completing practicum, field placement, or internship requirements through an accredited graduate program
- Demonstrated interest in evidence-based therapeutic approaches and outpatient mental health care for children, adolescents, adults, and/or couples
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a genuine ability to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds
- Commitment to professional development and ethical clinical practice
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULE
- Monday through Friday schedule; no on-call responsibilities and no weekend hours required
- All services are provided on-site from our office location; interns deliver both in-person and telehealth sessions from the office
