    Maintenance Mechanic

    MentorWorks Education Capital, a workforce development company, is looking for a Maintenance Mechanic **** to join one of our employer partners. Candidates will be screened by the MentorWorks team. If selected, the candidate will move on in the process to our employment partner.

    ** Summary:

    Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager and/or Maintenance Foreman, Maintenance Mechanics install, overhaul, dismantle, construct, inspect, replace, test and make mechanical and electrical repairs to buildings and mechanical equipment such as boilers, compressors, sprinklers, piping, plumbing, production and material handling equipment and controls.

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Installs, overhauls and repairs production and other equipment
    • Operates and overhauls, electrically and mechanically, all boilers, compressors, sprinklers, cooling towers and pumps as needed
    • Installs and maintains all plant piping, such as steam, water, air, gas and chemical lines
    • Welds and fabricates necessary for repair or projects
    • Maintains interior and exterior of buildings including windows, drain spouts, roofs, floors, ceiling, etc.
    • Performs plumbing repairs as required
    • Reads and interprets blue prints and schematic diagrams
    • Troubleshoots and accurately diagnoses equipment problems and makes plans to perform repairs
    • Requisitions parts and tools
    • Assembles parts and tools necessary to perform repairs
    • Coordinates the scheduling of repairs with department managers
    • Performs preventative maintenance as directed
    • Performs various inspections on safety equipment
    • Inputs and retrieves information from the AS/400 main frame

    Other Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Actively participates in adhering to plant housekeeping requirements by picking up trash, sweeping work areas, and returning materials and equipment to their proper locations
    • Adheres to all safety and work rules
    • Participates in training for lock out/tag out procedures and confined space entry, as well as OSHA training
    • Assists and trains new employees
    • Assists in emergency evacuations
    • Adheres to and follows job specific SOPs
    • Assists and trains new employees
    • Maintains regular and on-time attendance
    • Reads and comprehends instructions regarding new equipment, equipment changes and/or procedural changes
    • Performs miscellaneous assignments as directed

    Critical Demands:

    • Hand, eye and feet coordination to operate fork trucks
    • Hand and eye coordination to operate welding equipment, lathes, drills, saws and other equipment
    • Squat, kneel or stoop frequently to perform job duties
    • Ability to reach or extend forward to perform job duties
    • Ability to read and comprehend written materials such as blue prints, SOPs, EOPs, JSls, work rules, etc.
    • Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions
    • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
    • Walk or stand for extended periods of time
    • Stamina to work in extreme temperatures
    • Ascend and descend stairs to reach all areas of plant
    • Perform work from ladders or platforms at various heights
    • Dexterity to operate computers in order to enter or retrieve information
    • Communicate verbally or in writing with others

    Work Environment:

    • Periodic temperature extremes, including temperatures over 90 degrees
    • Some work areas located on 2nd or 3rd floor
    • Concrete or asphalt floors
    • Possible exposure to high levels of noise
    • Possible exposure to dust
    • Possible periodic exposure to fumes from paints and chemicals used in coating processes

    Job Requirements:

    • Formal training in electrical, building and machine operation
    • Education or equivalent experience in electrical circuitry, including AC/DC, motor controls, hydraulics, pneumatics, pipe fitting, and hoist and crane repair
    • High school level reading and writing, visual acuity to read blue prints, diagrams, operating instructions, labels, meters, gauges, documents and instructions
    • 3 to 5 years work experience in an industrial environment
    • Ability to safely operate manual and electric tools
    • Experience with boilers, compressors and sprinkler systems is preferred
    • Knowledge of PLCs is preferred
    • Available to work up to 12 hours per day on rotating shifts, that could include weekends and holidays

    Location: South City, St. Louis, MO

    Pay: $29.26- 34.24

    Train on days 7am-7pm (might take several months) then move to night shift.

    7pm-7am

    Rotating Schedule, lots of overtime
