  • Responsibilities

    Local charter school is seeking a HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER. The position will include:  Prepare academic lessons that engage students through active instruction that will yield process learning necessary for college and the job market.  Communicate knowledge and facilitate student learning in an engaging, stimulating, and effective manner; utilize a variety of instructional methods and curriculum resources to present material to students; share common planning, professional development, curriculum design, and teaching  responsibilities with other members of the core teaching team; administer various forms of student assessments, communicate with parents and team members about student progress, and plan for further instruction; and to integrate data-driven decision making into teaching and professional activities. Schedule of work hours are 7:40AM - 4:00PM Monday through Friday.

    ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    ·Create daily lesson plans and learning activities for students based on local and school standards in science education and research and knowledge of developmental behaviors.

    ·Prepare students for standardized tests required by the state.

    ·Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other documents as applicable.

    ·Select and obtain materials and supplies such as textbooks and project paraphernalia.

    ·Develop and enforce classroom rules to afford the best learning environment.

    ·Monitor students’ behavior and make physical observations for signs of abuse or learning disorders and report, if necessary.

    ·Customize lessons to accommodate various students’ learning pace and styles.

    ·Integrate technology as a learning tool for students.

    ·Foster positive rapport and relationships with students.

    ·Take appropriate precautions to protect students, equipment, material, and facilities.

    ·Re-teaches when necessary.

    ·Measures student growth using established goals and objectives.

    ·Uses a variety of evaluative tools to test for understanding and application of subject matter.

    ·Take a leadership role in at least one school-level committee or activity.

    ·Assume a team approach to the fulfillment of Individualized Education Plans as part of full inclusion Special Education program.

    ·Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior, and serve as a role model for all students.

    ·Remain knowledgeable and comply with all school, local, state, and federal regulations.

    ·Supervise students outside the classroom; lunchtime, detention, and other events.

    ·Coordinate with other staff for planning of special events.

    ·Creates partnerships with parents/caregivers and colleagues.

    ·Provides clear and timely information to parents/caregivers and colleagues.

    ·Encourages parents/caregivers to become active partners in their children’s education and to become involved in school and classroom.

    ·Be available for Open Houses, Parent-Teacher Conferences and other events involving parents.

    ·Communicate with parents about students’ progress.

    ·May teach / supervise students in extra-curricular and after-school activities.

    ·Complete additional tasks as deemed necessary and/or requested.

    MINIMUM EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSURE:

    ·Bachelor’s Degree in Science or a related field.

    ·Teacher’s license provided through LA Department of Education.

    ·Certification to teach High School Education in Science, preferred.

    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    ·Master-level knowledge of science functions and great command of professional communication form to explain details and make connections to present day events.

    ·Communication Skills – Must be able to collaborate with other teachers, students, and parents.

    ·Instructional Skills – Need to be able to explain difficult concepts to students in a manner that is understandable.  In addition, must be able to engage students in learning and adapt lessons to each student’s needs.

    ·Patience – Must be able to be patient when students struggle with grasping covered material.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    ·Frequent walking, kneeling to teach various topics.

    ·Must have great hand dexterity to utilize board, projector, and laptop, demonstrate lab experiments, and to grade papers.

    ·Occasional sitting or crouching.

    ·Must possess great hand and eye coordination for demonstration and classroom instruction.

    ·Some lifting, pushing/pulling under 50 lbs. without assistance.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    ·Climate – controlled classroom with artificial and/or natural light.

    ·Regular noise levels.

    ·No vibrations.
