    OVERVIEW

    Mercy Street is currently taking applications for energetic, confident, and friendly staff to work in the sports department as Sports Aides.  The Sports Aide will help to oversee practice and game sites while under the guidance of the Regional Sports Director.  The Sports Aide is a part-time, hourly position.

    EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

    Must understand the basic principles of sports programs such as basketball, baseball, soccer and football. Employee should be able to communicate with players, coaches and parents effectively, maintain a courteous, friendly attitude and be a positive role model. Must have the ability to make sound decisions and judgments even when distracted by noise and activity.

    Ability to complete some manual physical tasks involving, but not limited to:

    • Lifting items up to 50 lbs. in weight
    • Repetitive stooping, bending and movement
    • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, spending the workday on his/her feet
    • Working outdoors in cold or hot weather
    • Visual acuity required for monitoring potential hazards for children

    Ideal candidate is energetic, enthusiastic and is motivated to share that energy with all the sports participants. Candidate should have strong human relation skills. Incumbent must possess a strong understanding of Mercy Street and its mission as well as have a strong desire to deliver a quality program to children and families in the community.

    MINISTER OF THE GOSPEL

    1. The Communications and Event Coordinator is first and foremost considered to be a Minister of the Gospel.  This position furthers Mercy Street's religious mission by:

    3. Exhibiting a passion for sharing the Gospel with others.
    4. Being willing and able to explain the message of the Gospel to kids and families of Mercy Street.
    5. Being willing and able to assist in discipling kids and families of Mercy Street in a manner consistent with the Bible.
    6. Agreeing to the Mercy Street's Statement of Faith.
    7. Being ready, willing, and able to participate in distinctly Christian activities (including, but not limited to Bible studies, worship and/or staff chapel).

    OVERSEEING PRACTICE AND GAME SITES

    • Set-up and take-down of equipment
    • Ensuring the cleanliness of the facility or field
    •  Monitoring the check-in table
    • Providing answers to questions or seeking others who can do so
    • Enforcing all Mercy Street rules and policies

    OFFICIATING GAMES AS NECESSARY

    • Responsible for upholding the Sports Official Code of Conduct and enforcing the rules of play
    • Sole representative at many of the Mercy Street games; responsible to take & maintain control of games at all times
    • Call the game as fairly as possible and will make calls on a deemed needed basis
    • Make quick decisions with the best of his/her ability

    GENERAL SPORTS FACILITY MAINTENANCE

    • Aid in maintaining the Mercy Street sports playing fields ensuring readiness for play
    • Aid in maintaining Mercy Street Sports facilities including common areas, restrooms, buildings and storage facilities
    • Observe and communicate sports facility maintenance needs and communicate to supervisor

    OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE REGIONAL SPORTS DIRECTOR

    • Assist the Regional Sports Director with any other duties as assigned

    AUTHORITY

    Authority to accomplish this job is given by the Regional Sports Director to whom the Sports Aide is responsible. Hire is contingent upon results of a background check.

    DAYS, HOURS & COMPENSATION

    DAYS & HOURS: Saturdays and some weeknights. Minimum of 10 hours per week, with an expected maximum of 20 hours. The schedule and hours will vary depending on the number of leagues and teams.   

    COMPENSATION: Commensurate with experience.  Starting pay is $10 per hour.
