    Job Description

    Our Client is seeking a data analytics professional to join their rapidly growing Valuations & Opinions Group either in their Chicago or New York City office. Our Client possesses one of the largest proprietary global private company databases of accounting and fair value financial information. This information is difficult to obtain and highly valued as it provides important economic and financial information about the performance of private companies. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to analyze data and provide perspective focused on the global private corporate finance market. Their goal is to expand their corporate finance analytics; expanding their knowledge about the performance of private companies by continuing to harvest the information obtained.

    The successful candidate will have strong cognitive and interpersonal abilities, want to develop their professional and personal skills, and are motivated by the prospect of building a leading valuation and data analytics practice. Our client believes data analytics is a core component of their Valuations & Opinions Group and essential to its continuing growth. This position involves interacting closely with junior and senior bankers and clients’ senior executives.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Responsibilities at our client are more entrepreneurial than at other investment banking firms providing self-motivated individuals with many opportunities to contribute to a dynamic and growing business. The successful candidate will be an assertive, motivated self-starter with the desire and potential to succeed in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

    The data analyst will make recommendations about the methods and ways in which we obtain and analyze data as well as develop insights based upon the data analyzed. The data analyst should be able to:

    • Work with databases and other internal data platforms to extract and analyze information
    • Play a key role in data governance and maintain the integrity of the information in various databases
    • Create and present insightful analytics and presentations
    • Formulate data-driven business intelligence and insights
    • Present the results succinctly
    • Identifying patterns and trends in data sets
    • Collaborate within the business or the management team to establish creative findings
    • Define new data collection and analysis processes

    CAREER DEVELOPMENT:

    • Exposure to a broad array of domestic and international corporate finance issues
    • Collaborate with bankers throughout our client’s infrastructure
    • Unique career path as data analytics is a new and burgeoning role within investment banks
    • Ability to lead, create, grow, and develop a corporate finance data analytics department

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    A degree in the following subjects is beneficial in developing a career in data analysis:

    • Mathematics
    • Computer Science
    • Statistics
    • Economics

    THERE ARE ALSO A NUMBER OF QUALITIES TO EXPECT FROM A CANDIDATE TO FLOURISH IN A DATA ANALYST ROLE:

    • Experience in data models and reporting packages, particularly Tableau, SQL and PowerBI.
    • Additional programming skills such as MATLAB, Python and Stata would be helpful
    • Ability to analyze large datasets
    • Ability to write comprehensive reports
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • An analytical mind and inclination for problem-solving
    • Attention to detail
    • 3 years or more of experience as a Data Analyst, ideally in the investment baking industry
