    Founded in 1895, Kirlin Lighting is the longest-operating independent lighting fixture manufacturer in the United States. We are looking to add an experienced Machinist to our staff, working out of our headquarters in Detroit, MI.

    Overview

    Founded in 1895, Kirlin Lighting, the longest-operating independent lighting fixture manufacturer in the United States, seeks an experienced CNC Machinist / Metal Fab for our Detroit, MI headquarters. This role demands expertise in machining operations, G-code, machine setups, and proficiency in utilizing, maintaining, and developing jigs for precision component manufacturing. The ideal candidate will blend seasoned machinist skills with a thorough understanding of metal fabrication processes to ensure accurate and efficient production.

    Key Duties & Responsibilities

    · Operate and maintain bandsaws, drill presses, lathes, milling machines, and CNC equipment for precision component fabrication.

    · Interpret drawings to fabricate parts accurately, ensuring adherence to design specifications.

    · Take precise measurements for cutting or drilling extrusions, sheet metal parts, and implement appropriate machines and settings for each task.

    · Monitor and adjust the fabrication process, optimizing feed and settings for optimal performance.

    · Collaborate in the development and enhancement of jigs and fixtures, ensuring secure workpiece clamping and precise alignment.

    · Maintain inventory of completed products, perform machine maintenance and minor repairs, and manage perishable tooling needs.

    · Log job progression using ERP systems, multitasking efficiently and meeting urgent demands while mentoring new team members.

    · Utilize a variety of hand tools to fabricate parts and contribute effectively to the team's efforts.

    Qualifications & Skills

    The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive skill set, demonstrating expertise in:

    · CNC machining, G-code, and machine setups, with 4+ years' experience in a manufacturing environment.

    · Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), ensuring precise verification of part dimensions.

    · Utilization of precision measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers for accurate measurements.

    · Operating CNC machine probes for precise measurements and alignment.

    · Optimizing tool paths, feeds, and speeds for various machining operations.

    · Interpreting complex part drawings and calculating tolerances.

    · Contributing to the development of fixturing jigs for precise inspection purposes.

    Additionally, the candidate should exhibit the following skills

    · Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.

    · Basic computer skills.

    · Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety in all operations.

    · Excellent coordination and communication skills.

    · Capability to work independently or within a team, maintaining an organized approach and meeting deadlines.

    · Ability to lift to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks.

    Education

    · High school diploma or equivalent.

    Pay and Benefits

    · Salary: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour based on experience.

    · Schedule: Full-time position with an 8-hour shift, day shift, Monday to Friday.

    · Experience: 4 years of manufacturing experience is preferred.

    · Work Location: In-person at our Detroit, MI headquarters.Operates and maintains bandsaws, drill presses, lathes and milling machines.

    Utilizes drawings to manufacture parts and ensure accurate production.

    Takes precise measurements for cutting or drilling extrusions and sheet metal parts.

    Selects appropriate machine and settings for a given task.

    Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.

    Monitors fabrication process, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary.

    Maintains inventory of completed products.

    Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs.

    Monitors and requests perishable tooling (ie: band saw blades, drills, taps, sanding pads, driver bits, etc.)

    Makes fixtures and jigs as needed to make complex parts or cuts.

    Logs job progression in ERP system.

    Work on simultenous jobs while responding to urgent demand.

    Able to work overtime as needed.

    Act as a mentor to train new and developing employees.

    Able to use a variety of hand tools to fabricate parts.

    Maintains a safe and clean workstation.

    Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.

    Qualifications & Skills:

    Excellent coordination and seasoned machinist skills

    4 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment

    Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety

    Solid written and verbal communication skills along with ability to work alone or within a team

    Must be well organized and able to work under deadlines

    Proficient in math and has problem solving skills

    Basic computer skills

    Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks

    Education:

    High school or equivalent

    Pay is Based off experience level
