  • Responsibilities

    Job Description

    The Metal Shop Technician will assist in fabrication and assembly of custom Switchgear structures of varying size and scope to meet client and product specs and prepare the same for shipment. Good understanding of machinery safety. Use hand and small power tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, drills as required. Must be able to read and understand blueprints. Infrequent travel may be required for install/service.

    Schedule: Monday to Friday & Tuesday to Friday 4x10 schedule $2 shift differential to be applied

    Accountabilities:

    • Assist with the handling of raw steel and copper.
    • Assist in operation of metal shop machinery, including punch, brake, shear and saws.
    • Weld sheet metal goods and prep for coating.
    • Assemble metalwork and handle sheet metal goods.
    • Follow blueprint diagrams.
    • Be proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools.
    • Fabrication, including saw cutting and drilling.
    • May be required to cross train, supporting other sections of the Company.
    • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    Required Knowledge/Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years in general mechanical or metal working or associated field.
    • Experience in the use of hand tools and hand power tools
    • Valid driver’s license (for service-related positions).
    • Satisfactory completion of additional background screening (if applicable).

    Required Skill/Abilities:

    • Ability to read blueprints.
    • Follow verbal directions to meet the production schedule.
    • Ability to use ruler, scale, tape measure, calipers
    • Possess basic tools including gear wrenches, impact gun, torque wrenches, metrics & standard sockets.
    • High dedication to quality of results to avoid rework.
    • Ability to work under pressure/time constraints.
    • Able to work with minimal direction and achieve objectives.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Welding certification.
    • Forklift experience and/or certification.
    • Carpentry skills.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    • This is a FLSA non-exempt position and is paid on an hourly basis, where project requirements and tight client deadlines may require workweeks over forty (40) hours (including weekends or holidays)
    • This role is based on the production floor. This position requires standing for extended periods, working around machinery, and adherence to all safety and compliance standards.
    • Mobility: Ability to move around the manufacturing plant, including walking, standing, and climbing stairs.
    • Manual Dexterity: Occasional use of hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
    • Lifting: Ability to lift and carry items up to fifty (50) pounds. All lifting should be done following OSHA standards.
    • Visual and Auditory Requirements: Must be able to see and hear well enough to navigate the plant safely and communicate effectively with team members.
