    DESCRIPTION: Summary

    Become a member of our Zoo Crew – the operations staff our guests interact with most. Responsible for always providing a smile and representing the Zoo in the best light possible to all guests. Opportunities to learn and provide leadership and training to fellow Zoo Crew members as supervisory roles are achieved. No experience is needed. On-the-Job training is provided for all tasks.

    Supervisors will perform all of the same tasks as the Zoo Crew Team, but spend most time organizing and training team members to perform the tasks.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    90% of time will be spent :

    Focusing on enhancing our guest experience by preparing, operating, and cleaning up the public access facilities at the Zoo. Cleaning bathrooms and picking up trash are vital tasks to keeping our facilities presentable. These facilities are divided into 6 Divisions:

    1. Guest Services * Provide accurate basic Zoo information to guests * Ring in Guests upon entry * Explain benefits to memberships / sell * Monitor guests and birds in the Budgie Aviary
    2. Gift Shop * Organize and restock merchandise * Answer phone * Assist in concession stand * Operate carousel ride
    3. Food Services * Take orders * Prepare cold and hot foods * Maintain cleanliness of food equipment
    4. Ride Operation * Operate Sky ride * Operate/drive Train while narrating a tour * Provide some animal exhibit cleanup
    5. Treetop Zoofari * Properly inspect course for guest safety * Provide accurate Zoo and Adventure park information to guests * Ring in guests upon entry * Properly secure harnesses on guests * Ensure guest safety while they participate on the courses * Provide some animal exhibit cleanup
    6. Projects/Maintenance * Provide assistance to grounds keeping * Provide assistance to exhibit renovations * Provide assistance to new exhibit construction

    10% of time will be spent : In other Zoo needs

    To perform this job satisfactorily, an individual must be able to:

    Zoo Crew must:

    • Be self-motivated in work ethic
    • Be able to work outdoors in all-weather from 0° to 100+° Fahrenheit
    • Be able to communicate to his/her supervisor and with any temporary subordinates
    • Be able to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively
    • Be able to handle multiple tasks and be creative and motivated
    • Have a great attention to detail to ensure safety and overall positive guest experience

    Experience and Education:

    • Candidates must be 16 years old (min of 18 for ride operation and some treetop responsibilities).

    Physical Demands – Candidates Must:

    • Have the physical capability and stamina to perform duties for 8 hours a day
    • Able to lift 40lbs
    • Full range of motion in back and all extremities
    • Be able to walk and stand and bend over for long periods of time.

    Hours

    • Variable Hour employment up to 40 hrs/ week

    (Zoo does not offer overtime hours)

    • Monday – Saturday work week (Holiday availability required)
