EARLE M. JORGENSEN CO. (EMJ) is a leading distributor and processor of bar, plate and tubular products. With an extensive inventory and state of the art processing capabilities, we support the demands of a wide, diverse and growing customer base. The Charlotte location of EMJ is currently seeking a Tube Laser Operator to join our team. Prior metal processing and/or tube laser experience is preferred and the chosen candidate will be expected to:
Identify and select correct material – requires competent use of tape measures, calipers and EMJ Color Code.
- Load raw material - requires the use of forklift, side-loader or overhead crane.
- Import files from remote drive – requires basic understanding of Windows applications.
- Set machine to proper parameters, i.e. changing lenses, nozzles, filters etc. – requires use and understanding of basic hand tools such as wrenches, hex keys, screwdrivers.
- Adjust tech tables as needed – requires understanding of laser’s focus, gas pressure, power settings, etc.
- Inspect finished parts– requires the ability to read and understand drawings, use calipers, height gauges, pin gauges, micrometers and tape measures.
- Package finished parts – requires the ability to read packaging instructions and use equipment to package parts.
- Transport finished goods to the staging area – requires use of forklift, overhead crane or side loader.
- Perform miscellaneous warehouse duties outside of the tube laser bay as needed
Required Skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to convert fractions to decimals and imperial measurements to metric.
- Ability to read and understand drawings/blueprints.
- Good mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to read and write in English.
