    POSITION SUMMARY

     

    CWI’s Associate General Counsel assists its General Counsel in providing legal advice and counsel to CWI in a variety of areas including but not limited to business transactions, grants, employment, student legal matters, intellectual property, real estate, organizational governance, computer and information technology, civil rights and faculty legal matters.  A primary focus is in areas of contract management, procurement and commercial transactions.  Associate General Counsel may also provide support for other areas of the College including but not limited to human resources, academic affairs, and student affairs.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB 

     

     

    • Negotiate, draft and review CWI’s contracts, with a focus on procurement, purchasing and IT transactions.
    • Serve as a strategic partner with business units, providing practical advice and alternative solutions to commercial business issues. Directly negotiate matters on behalf of CWI.
    • Provide backup support to General Counsel, including research and writing, in support of various areas of the College.
    • Advise on matters of higher education law, employment issues and student matters.
    • Assist General Counsel in managing outside legal counsel in litigation and administrative proceedings;
    • Provide counsel and advice concerning compliance with federal and state statutes and regulations affecting institutions of higher education.
    • Assist General Counsel in providing advice and counsel to the Board of Trustees and its Governance Committees
    • Provide general legal services and day to day advice to senior leaders in administration
    • Perform such other duties as may from time to time be assigned

     

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

     

    • Juris Doctorate degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school;
    • License to practice law in Idaho, or the ability to become licensed within one year of hire;
    • At least three years’ experience as a licensed attorney in good standing preferred
    • Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards, professional and personal integrity and unquestioned discretion in maintaining confidentiality
    • Experience in building relationships with executives and outside partners;
    • Experience with employment law and civil rights issues; litigation knowledge and experience
    • Demonstrated ability to define issues, develop alternatives, and build solutions; effective leadership experience with diverse teams;
    • Skill at accomplishing goals and objectives; skill in project management with the ability to lead through influence, collaboration and empowerment;
    • Excellent analytical, professional, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
    • Experience in following areas preferred:
      • Higher education or public service
      • Representing clients in complex commercial transactions with an emphasis on technology transactions and higher education or public entity procurement
      • Managing difficult and/or high profile issues

    Required Skills Required Experience

  • Qualifications
    • Successfully pass the Lawrence plant's written and practical qualifying electrical and mechanical tests.
    • Basic electrical skills include:  proficiency in AC/DC theory and analysis, power distribution, troubleshooting motor and machine control circuits, wiring and conduit installation, blueprint reading, and familiar will Allen Bradley PLC (SLC and ControlLogix) software.
    • Basic electronic skills include:  essentials of industrial electronics, fundamentals of process instrumentation, and digital logic.
    • Basic mechanical skills include:  proficiency in industrial, mechanical and millwright practices, sheet metal practices, pipe fitting, blueprint reading, electric arc welding and centrifugal pump overhaul and seal replacement, troubleshooting proficiency with rotating equipment, knowledge of lifting and rigging.
    • Strong ability to communicate productively with operations, maintenance, and technical personnel.
    • Ability to interpret and use technical manuals, blueprints and equipment drawings, and engineering sketches to troubleshoot, modify, and install mechanical and electrical equipment.
    • Broad knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, how they operate, and how they are maintained.
    • Ability to follow all relevant ES&H, Food Safety, cGMP, and ISO procedures.
    • Ability to safely exit the plant in the event of an emergency.
