GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE
This position is responsible under the direction of the Ag Manager for meeting harvesting schedules and production for designated ranch while controlling costs.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION
- Meet all scheduled plantings at targeted yield amounts and quality standards.
- Oversee fertilizing activities.
- Develop and achieve growing cost savings goals.
- Prioritize field equipment repairs ensuring minimal downtime for farming operations.
- Manage and achieve food and employee safety goals with safety inspections, tailgates, SOP audits and employee training.
- Communicate orally with crew members, Supervisors, and to have adequate written skills to prepare such written documentation as incident reports.
- Keep ranch clean and free of debris from outside crews.
- Prepare and maintain time/payroll records and reports, as well as disciplinary actions.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- 5 to 10 year experience with farm vegetable production
- 3 years of farm supervisory experience
- Experience with tractors, farm implements and irrigation equipment
- Must be able to work well with management and harvesting foremen.
- Ability to make recommendations and observations with the approval of management that would impact the success of growing the various crops
- Attend Pesticide and Safety Training meetings
- Bilingual in Spanish/English

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
- High school diploma or GED desirable
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT
- Oversees 20-25 hourly bargaining unit employees
PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to work in various weather conditions
- Ability to walk in uneven ground
- Ability to climb on and off farming equipment
- Limited travel to various ranches and division headquarters
WORK HOUR REQUIREMENT
- Ability to work overtime and weekends
