    GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE

    The Dole Fresh Vegetables (DFV) Logistics Intern project will be to develop and complete a comparative cost analysis of insourcing vs. outsourcing DFV’s current trailer spotting services in our Eastern region operations.  An additional element of this project to be incorporated will be the analysis and evaluation of diesel vs. electric equipment for the spotting services tractors. This will lead to understanding the viability of migrating to an electric yard tractor solution for this aspect of DFV’s business and supports DFV’s Sustainability mission to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions across our operations.

     

    Intern will work with and across several different DFV functional teams and resources to complete the discovery work for both current and future service solutions. Will develop the cost model to present the comprehensive comparison of services and cost. Will develop and present their analysis, conclusions, and recommendations to DFV Management stakeholders.

     

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS/DUTIES OF THE POSITION

    • Complete due diligence on understanding and identifying the current DFV spotting services in each region/operation
    • Aggregate the information of the current commercial agreements with current spotting services providers being used across the business
    • Review and understand the spotting services agreements
    • Research and identify the availability and sourcing points for electric yard spotting tractors
    • Understand the electrification needs of our facilities to operate with electric yard spotting tractors
    • Scope the equipment needs based on DFVs trailer spotting activities and needs
    • Identify any current DFV limitations at the Plant operations to meet utilizing electric vehicles
    • Develop a useable comparative cost model for insourcing vs outsourcing the spotter service
    • Cost model should also compare the use of diesel vs electric regardless of an insource or outsource decision.
    • Develop Powerpoint and cost model presentation to present to DFV Management

     

    INTERNSHIP TYPE

    • 2021 12-week summer internship.
    • Paid internship.
    • No housing assistance provided.
    • 40-hour work week. No overtime expected.

    • Ability to research and gather information and data from internal and external sources Logistics
    • Basic knowledge of Supply Chain systems TMS, WMS, Web based supply chain applications is a plus
    • Prior supply chain internship or direct work in supply chain, logistics or transportation roles desirable, but not required

    • EXTERNAL: Carriers, Spotter Service Suppliers, OEM Yard Tractor Suppliers

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear.
    • Ability to walk in uneven ground.

     

    TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

    • One offsite travel event to DFV 3rd party Supplier (Harvest tour)

    Required Experience

    EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

    • Fall 2021 Junior or Senior college student pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a focused major on Supply Chain/Logistics/Procurement Management or Business Operations.
