    Job Description

    Microchip IPS -- SPM has a key opening in our Garden Grove office for a Technical Staff Engineer – Design. This key position is primarily responsible for leading the development of Power Electrical Converters and Inverters in pursuit of our Aerospace Product Roadmap. The Space and Power Management Group (SPM) is the power systems division of Microchip Corporation and a leading designer, manufacturer and marketer of high-performance modules and systems in Power Management. Our primary markets are in Space Systems and other high reliability applications such as flight critical aviation power systems. We see ourselves as partners to our customers providing differentiated solutions that address system and sub-system level challenges. We place great emphasis on validated solutions that work right the first time and provide reliable service over the product life cycle.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead the development of Power Electrical Inverters and Converters for the Aerospace Market
    • Execute the design evolution of associated products and systems
    • Prepare winning proposals to Microchip’s Aerospace customers
    • Supervise an electrical development team with power and mixed signal competencies
    • Develop clear and compliant Design Review reports and presentation packages
    • Develop efficient and comprehensive product test plans
    • Support continuous process improvement initiatives in line with AS9100 certification
    • Domestic and International travel may be required
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • BS degree in Electronics with a preferred emphasis on Power and Analog Engineering
    • MSc and / or MBA degree preferred
    • 10 years Electronic Power Conversion design experience preferably in aerospace field
    • Strong experience and competence in Electrical Analysis, Modelling and Simulation
    • Experience in Space power systems required
    • Demonstrated ability to work with Mechanical Engineering to develop Power Converter designs that optimize compliance to Electromechanical requirements
    • Firmware development and familiarity with FPGAs preferred
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Able to present effectively to Internal & External customers
    • Relevant Engineering Management experience preferred
    • Experience in power converter designs based on IGBTs and / or SiC FETs a plus
    • This job requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by the export laws of the United States.
