Goodspeed Merrill is seeking a mid-level tax associate (Wealth Transfer) to support sophisticated wealth transfer and estate planning strategies for ultra-high-net-worth individuals and multigenerational families. This role is designed for an attorney who excels in deep technical execution, structured analysis, and ownership of complex planning matters from design through implementation.
This position plays a key role in the execution and implementation of advanced tax strategies within ATS and involves close collaboration with the internal ATS team. The role emphasizes disciplined execution of sophisticated wealth transfer and estate plans.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES :
Wealth Transfer Planning & Drafting
- Draft and implement complex trust-based planning structures, including grantor and non-grantor trusts
- Support gifting programs, estate freeze techniques, and closely held business succession planning
- Prepare detailed step plans and supporting tax memoranda
Execution & Coordination
- Translate planning concepts into sequenced implementation steps
- Coordinate with senior attorneys, clients, and advisors
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and documentation integrity
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE :
- Strong preference for deep, focused technical work
- High degree of accuracy, follow-through, and execution discipline
- Comfort operating independently within a structured environment
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATION :
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- LLM in Taxation strongly preferred (or equivalent experience)
- 4-8 years post-JD tax practice with significant drafting responsibility
- Big 4 or accounting firm experience welcomed where it includes substantive planning and implementation
- Compliance-only backgrounds are unlikely to be a fit
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary Range - $150,000 - $165,000 (depending on experience)
- Quarterly Bonus Potential - from 3% to 16% of total realized revenue with no billable hour requirements. Bonuses are tied to clear objective metrics, offering substantial earning potential for high performers.
