    Position overview

    As a Data Engineer, you will be working with the MHC Technology and Analytics team to automate data ingestion and preparation across a cloud infrastructure. Your work will enable analytics and visualizations that provide actionable insights and drive clinical and operational change to manage populations effectively and reduce the total cost of care.

    This is an exciting opportunity to help drive the organization’s population health analytics agenda. As Data Engineer you will report to the Visualization and Data Product Lead, but you’ll also regularly interact with MHC’s VP of Technology and Analytics as well as the rest of the MHC leadership.

    Based on performance and demonstrated success, this role has the potential to broaden their scope beyond the initial responsibilities detailed below, especially in development toward data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence.

    Primary responsibilities

    Population Health analytics requires integration and manipulation of data from disparate claims and clinical sources. Key responsibilities include:

     

    • Design, develop, document and test technologically sophisticated methods of integrating data from disparate sources
    • Extract data from various sources, either through ODBC/JDBC connections, APIs, or flat files
    • Manipulate and prepare data for visualization and analytics
    • Optimize, automate, and scale data processing in a cloud environment using open source tools
    • Design and establish databases and data models
    • Perform thorough quality assurance testing and efficiently remediate defects
    • Assist in overall data and analytics architecture
    • Communicate with stakeholders and participate in requirements gathering sessions
    • Present and create / maintain documentation on solution architecture to both technical and non-technical audiences

     Requirements

    • College Degree (BA/BS)
    • American citizen or green card holder
    • 2+ years working as a data engineer or an analogous role performing data integration and data modeling work
    • Embodies the desire, willingness, and aptitude to take on new challenges and quickly learn best practices for solutions to complex problems
    • Highly proficient at translating business problems into technological solutions
    • Experience in cloud environments and administration
    • Experience in database administration
    • Thrives working in a team environment and across multiple organizations
    • Embraces MHC culture and values (resilience, open collaboration, engaging, friendly and fun) and shows an ability and desire to quickly adapt to a fast-paced environment
    • Understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence
    • Experience with Tableau and Tableau Server
    • Above average proficiency in using open-sourced tools (i.e. Python, R) to automate ingestion, manipulation/transformation, and loading data into a target database
    • Strong SQL development skills and data architecture methods
    • Strong understanding of APIs and connectors for data integration
    • Strong understanding of business intelligence concepts including ETL, data warehousing, and visualization

     

    Preferred skills and experience—ideal though not required

    • Experience working directly with health systems and/or healthcare providers
    • Understanding of machine learning and artificial intelligence
    • Experience with Tableau and Tableau Server
