    Job Description

    The calendering lines at North American Calendering convert raw rubber into sheet form. The end products span many industries, ranging from tires, hoses, and gaskets to conveyor belts and belt splice materials. Types of calendered rubber include unsupported sheets, or sheet stocks and rubber-reinforced fabrics, known as friction-coats or skim-coats.

    The Line Technician is responsible for controlling work being performed at the exit of the calender. This includes maintaining wind-up tension, ensuring the wind-up is wrinkle-free, and checking gauge and width. Alternatively, the Line Technician may be asked to feed the calender nip with milled slabs of rubber.

    Job Functions

    · Follow Work Order instructions

    o Help in the set up and break down of every Work Order

    o Maintain proper tension on the wind-up

    o Ensure roll is being wound with no creases or deformities

    o Flag sections of bad product (creases, fold overs, miss outs, poorly slit edges, etc), document them on the Work Order and on the outside of the roll

    o Check gauge and width, record them on the Work Order, and report them to the Calender Operator

    o Help feed slabs into the calender nip

    § Ensure slabs are at the appropriate temperature

    o Clean machine and surrounding area as prescribed on Clean Out State Machine and Clean Out Checklist

    · Complete all paperwork as necessary

    o Record gauge and width measurements on the Work Order

    o Add labels that include part IDs and descriptions to the outside of rolls and inside of cores

    · Work and contribute as a member of the Calendering Team

    o Notify the Calender Operator of gauge and width measurements, especially when not in conformance with Work Order specifications

    o Work in sync with the Calender Operator to ensure product does not drag on the floor or is not wound too tight

    · Work and contribute as a member of a larger team

    o Familiarize and increase knowledge of all calendering lines and how to increase efficiencies where possible

    o Share ideas with Production Team (Supervisor/Plant Manager) on ways to improve performance and quality

    o Perform other duties as assigned

    · Perform basic equipment maintenance

    o Check e-stops at the beginning of each shift

    Help clean and maintain a contamination-free environment

    · Incorporate Safety into all job functions

    o Ensure that the equipment is operating in safe working conditions and is in conformance with OSHA Standards

    o If something is not Safe it is everyone’s responsibility to “See Something, Say Something” to Production Supervisor/Plant Manager/Maintenance to get it addressed

    o Raise awareness to Supervisor/Plant Manager/Leadership Team for potential areas of production opportunities/concern/exposure

    Requirements
