    The FACILITIES SERVICES – ENGINEERING & UTILITIES DEPARTMENT invites applications for a STATIONARY ENGINEER to join their team. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of boilers and turbine generators and ancillary equipment using electronic, pneumatic and hand controls. The Heating Plant on campus is responsible for generating and supplying steam to buildings on campus for heating, cooking, sterilizing, hot water and electrical generation. We provide repair, replacement, and preventative maintenance of all related equipment in boiler room, turbine room, distribution system, and mechanical rooms throughout campus.

     

    Duties include, but not limited to:

    • Maintain proper steam pressures and boiler water levels; adjusts equipment to maintain meet steam load requirements and attend to all boiler auxiliaries
    • Ensure the turbine generator efficiency by closely monitoring exhaust pressures
    • Have/obtain the ability to expedite proper operating procedures for casualty control
    • Maintain watch on gauges, recorders and meters and controls for correct operations, and record keeping
    • Maintain a boiler log every three hour all boiler and generator parameters
    • Mix and inject all boiler and line chemicals
    • Monitor and regenerate water softening systems
    • Perform general housekeeping in plant

     

    This position requires the incumbent to develop a working knowledge of basic controls and the ability to troubleshoot and correct common boiler fault conditions.

     

    Required Skills

    • Knowledge of boiler operations and maintenance procedures for boilers, turbines, and their auxiliary devices and components

    • Work while wearing PPE including respirators

     

    Physical Requirements

    (Qualified candidates must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform the primary functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.)

    • Lifting: Ground to 48 inches, up to 50 lbs. Ground to overhead, 15 lbs.
    • Carrying: Front carry up to 50 lbs. for 50 feet or less.
    • Pushing and pulling forces required (pushing and pulling materials, and during the use of tools): 70 lbs. sustained.
    • Repetitive squatting on both even and uneven surfaces.
    • 3-minute overhead work from various positions (standing, crouching, or kneeling).
    • Static forward bending from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools.
    • Trunk rotation from a standing or kneeling position.
    • Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder.
    • Walking various distances, continuously, throughout the day on even and uneven surfaces.
    • Use of various grip circumferences and strengths as well as static grip positions during the use of various tools (4 1/2" to 5 1/2" circumference needing an average of 65 lbs. of grip force) and while manipulating various work materials (maximum 100 lbs.).
    • Climb a various number of stairs up to 100.

    PHYSICAL SCREEN WILL BE ADMINISTERED PRIOR TO A FINAL OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT.

     

    Minimum Required Experience

    • High School diploma and four (4) years of experience operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers and pressure vessels requiring a first-class license to operate
    • Licensed as a First-Class Boiler Operator in the State of Montana
    • Maintain a Montana State Driver’s License

     

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience performing boiler, turbine and distribution piping maintenance in an industrial setting

    WORK SCHEDULE:                 Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday on a Rotating Shift, 12 months/year.

    SALARY:                                $34.00/HR

    PROBATIONARY PERIOD:        Three months minimum
