Millwork Shop Drawing Reviewer

New York, NY
Paid
  • Responsibilities

Our client, a high-end residential construction management firm in New York, is developing software that generates millwork shop drawings. This role exists to make that software good enough to trust. You would check what it produces, correct it, and feed those corrections back so the system improves.

We are looking for a millwork draftsman who has produced shop drawings for years and can tell at a glance when one is wrong.

    What you would be doing

    • Check software-generated millwork shop drawings for accuracy, constructability and completeness.
    • Correct what is wrong - dimensions, joinery, materials, hardware, edge conditions, assembly sequence, shop standards.
    • Judge the output the way a shop would. Will this drawing build, and will it build the way a high-end shop expects.
    • Work through high volume consistently, so the software learns from the corrections.
    • Work directly with the principal on what the software gets right and what it keeps getting wrong.

    What we are looking for

    • A minimum of five years personally producing millwork shop drawings. Not reviewing them, not approving them - drawing them.
    • A thorough command of the full cycle: starting from the architect’s PDFs, CAD drawings and schedules, developing the shop drawing set, revising it for architect comments, design changes, field conditions and field dimensions, and carrying it through to the record set released for fabrication.
    • Experience in custom architectural millwork, casework or custom furniture.
    • Fluency in whatever you draft in day to day, whether that is AutoCAD or a millwork-specific package.
    • No software development or AI experience is expected or required.

    A note on samples
