JOB PURPOSE
The Millwright is responsible for installing, assembling, maintaining, and repairing industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. This role requires precision, technical skill, and problem-solving ability to ensure the safe and efficient operation of industrial systems.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install, assemble, and dismantle industrial machinery and mechanical equipment per specifications and blueprints.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems, including conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and rotating equipment.
- Align, level, and calibrate equipment using precision measuring tools such as dial indicators, micrometers, and laser alignment tools.
- Read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints to determine work procedures.
- Troubleshoot mechanical failures, diagnose problems, and implement repairs efficiently.
- Operate rigging equipment and hoists to position and transport heavy machinery safely.
- Work with welding, cutting, and fabrication tools when necessary for on-site modifications and repairs.
- Follow OSHA and company safety protocols, ensuring a clean and hazard-free work environment.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and parts inventory.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or management.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Education & Training:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical or vocational training in millwright work, industrial mechanics, or a related field preferred.
- Ability to complete required on-the-job training provided by MYER.
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a millwright or in a similar industrial maintenance role preferred.
- Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, or construction environments.
Special Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of industrial equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, and power transmission systems.
- Ability to use precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, laser alignment tools, etc.).
- Welding and fabrication experience a plus.
- Understanding of OSHA safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical systems and diagnose failures effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Vision: Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and small print on measuring tools.
- Hearing: Able to recognize warning signals, alarms, and verbal instructions in a noisy environment.
- Lifting: Able to lift and maneuver up to 50 lbs. as needed.
- Standing/Walking: Must be able to stand, walk, and climb ladders for extended periods.
- Bending/Kneeling: Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling required.
- Equipment Operation: Must be comfortable using hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment, and hoists.
