    Job Description

    ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES As a small business, we do not have specialized roles. However, with this position, we are looking to create a new role within our organization, one that combines four skills we need throughout our organization:

    1. Qualitative interviewing - conduct depth interviews across range of audiences, group sessions, ethnographies, and online communities.
    2. Qualitative results / reporting - build a comprehensive, yet simple story from qualitative interviewing that help address our clients’ questions and provides clear direction for action.
    3. Visual storytelling - use a combination of media – PPT, video, visuals, graphics, photos, iconography, etc. - to support the results. This work may include data visualization for our quantitative work.
    4. Internal support for HR and Finance - as a small company, we do not have people dedicated to specific functions. However, we have some of our senior leaders dedicated time to Finance and HR. Your role would be to support them in this effort.

    The needs of the business will determine which of these areas you will focus on at any given time. There may be weeks where you a fully dedicated to qualitative work, and other times which are completely focused on internal support.

    The position...

    • Is full-time, with reality that some evening / weekends will be needed;
    • Requires a strong, foundational knowledge of qualitative research – including research methods, interview design, analysis and report construction.
    • Requires creative approaches to reporting results to our clients, using video, graphic design, photography, and iconography.
    • Requires a fair amount of independence; our approach is to trust our people to get what we need to get done, always with the support of the team.
    • Will have you working on projects from the onset; training is primarily on-the-job, learning via lots of conversation / feedback / guidance.
    • Is part of a team, who must work collaboratively to deliver above and beyond our client’s expectations.
    • Requires a high-level of concentration and multi-tasking; may sound like a contradiction, but if you know what we mean, then please apply.
    • Will always be fast paced with need to deliver against tight timelines. There will be ebbs and flows but never lulls.
    • Requires self-motivation and accountability, with ability to know when to ask for help.
    • Allows opportunity for you to work on your own career and personal development.
    • Is based on the West Coast, but not limited to a specific location / city

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 3 years working at an agency, utilizing qualitative research to inform decisions – this could be for internal purposes or for clients;

    Demonstrated...

    • Curiosity – in general, and specifically about people;
    • People-orientation – ability to relate to and converse with and show empathy towards people of all walks of life;
    • Creativity – ability to translate findings / insights learned from our research into a compelling story;
    • Flexibility – this role will work across teams and will have several people vying for your attention.
    • Prioritization skills – tied in with flexibility, you will need to know or be able to figure out what most urgently needs your attention
    • Proficient at PowerPoint, Excel, G-Suite, Adobe Suite (at least some platforms), video editing software and other data visualization tools;
    • Interest in a start-up environment; willing to pitch in wherever necessary to get things done
    • Experience managing upward; not afraid to share a controversial opinion;
    • Great written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate what F’inn needs into directions for our external vendors and contractors.
    • Open to working / communicating directly with clients; this will not be part of the role initially, but would be a potential area of development.
