Location:Remote (North American time-zone overlap)
We are seeking a Junior Engineer or Geologist to join our team and play a pivotal role in developing accurate, engineering-based models for mine design, scheduling, and cost estimation. You will leverage your real-world mining experience to ensure our methodologies, assumptions, and tools are grounded in practical project operations.
This is a dynamic role that blends technical engineering with economic analysis and cross-functional collaboration with our product and data teams. You will translate complex engineering workflows into structured methodologies used across our software products, contributing directly to the core infrastructure of our platform.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Modeling: Develop, build, and validate comprehensive CAPEX and OPEX models for both surface and underground mining projects.
Data Analysis: Extract critical engineering and cost-related parameters from technical reports (e.g., 43-101s, JORCs, SK 1300s).
Estimation & Assumptions: Create detailed mining cost estimates based on equipment, labor, consumables, and productivity assumptions.
Methodology & Standards: Work with internal teams to standardize engineering workflows and ensure consistency and accuracy across all cost models and databases.
Technical Guidance: Support the development of mining schedules and operational assumptions, offering technical guidance on mining methods and production rates.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a closely related field.
A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in mine planning, operations, consulting, or cost estimation.
Understanding of key mine design principles, production scheduling, and critical cost drivers.
Proficiency in interpreting technical studies and operational datasets.
Solid technical grasp of equipment selection, cycle times, and productivity modeling.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work effectively with a high degree of independence.
Preferred Qualifications (A Plus):
Prior experience in building or validating complex cost models.
Familiarity with project economic analysis (e.g., NPV, sensitivity, scenario analysis).
Exposure to both open-pit and underground mining operations.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional technical or product teams.
Strong technical skills in modeling and analysis using Excel or Python.
The Team & Your Career Path:
You will work closely with our product and technical teams to continuously refine methodologies, validate assumptions, and expand our modeling capabilities. This role offers a clear growth path, with the potential to evolve into a lead position focused on engineering standards and cost modeling as our tools and platform scale.
What We Offer:
Impact: Ownership of core engineering inputs and methodologies that drive our product.
Flexibility: Autonomy in your approach to modeling and analysis.
Work Environment: A remote-first culture with a focus on North American time-zone collaboration.
Culture: A highly collaborative team dedicated to solving meaningful, industry-wide challenges.
This Role May Not Be the Best Fit If:
You prefer a highly structured environment with rigid, established processes.
You are looking for a narrow, specialized role rather than a varied scope encompassing engineering, economic analysis, and product collaboration.
