    Vision & Purpose

    The Ministry Associate of Calvary Baptist Church will serve in a part-time position within Calvary Baptist Church focusing on 1) assisting the senior pastor in providing pastoral services to the whole congregation, and 2) providing support and leadership to our Christian Education programs and volunteers.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    The pastoral ministry associate shall have the following qualifications and/or meet the following requirements:

    Must be a baptized and committed follower of Jesus Christ who feels called by God to vocational ministry.

    Candidates must be aligned with the mission and values of American Baptist Churches USA and Calvary Baptist. Preference will be given to candidates who have, are seeking, or are willing to seek ABC recognized ordination or licensing.

    Master's level theological training from an ATS accredited institution, in progress or complete, is required.

    Must demonstrate ability to “think outside the box” and work within both traditional and non-traditional models of ministry.

    Must demonstrate ability and openness to work within a diverse congregation with members of many different cultural backgrounds, perspectives, and viewpoints.

    Must demonstrate moral integrity and comply with the Covenant and Code of Ethics for Ministerial Leaders of ABC-USA.

    Must submit to and pass a nationwide background check.

    Responsibilities & Duties

    This is a part-time, salaried position estimated to require 15-20 hours per week on average.

    Specific responsibilities and duties of this position include but are not limited to:

    Pastoral Ministry

    Preach, teach, design worship, lead prayer, etc. as needed and requested to assist or fill-in for the senior pastor.

    Attend Sunday morning worship and other church functions so as to be present to the congregation.

    Develop nurturing, pastoral relationships with all church members.

    Provide pastoral care and visitation to church members as needed and requested to assist or fill-in for the senior pastor.

    Engage in outreach efforts with visitors and prospects.

    Assist at weddings, funerals, or other services as needed.

    Perform all other duties as assigned by the senior pastor.

    Christian Education support

    Work closely and cooperatively with existing volunteer leadership, providing support, encouragement, and resources.

    Help to train and recruit new volunteer leaders as necessary.

    Implement or assist with Christian Education programming as needed and requested, which could include teaching, input, or administrative tasks.

    Attend regular Wednesday night programming and other programs related to our Christian Education ministry

    Work with the Board of Christian Education to develop goals and processes for the spiritual formation needs of the congregation.

    Accountability

    The Ministry Associate shall:

    Serve directly under and be accountable to the senior pastor in a staff relationship. The senior pastor is head of staff, providing overall direction.

    Work with an assigned congregational mentor, meeting regularly to process experiences, share feedback, etc.

    Attend and come prepared to scheduled staff meetings, which will usually occur biweekly.

    Be accountable to and attend meetings of the Diaconate and the Board of Christian Education. These bodies will also work with the senior pastor to provide regular assessment of the Ministry Associate.

    Meet with the Pastoral Relations Committee once a month for the first 6 months, and then at a mutually agreed upon frequency afterward.

    Continue working towards the completion of any theological degree programs still in progress, and attend other training as deemed necessary or beneficial for the position.
