    This job posting will fill multiple temporary, full-time Sergeant positions.

    REPORTS TO: Assistant Sergeant at Arms

    SALARY: $18.49/hour + holiday pay

    This position will be onsite in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol with an expected end date of late May 2022.

    This is a nonpartisan position, and the expectation is that the successful candidate will remain free from party affiliation, bias, or designation the duration of the appointment.

    Position Purpose

    The Sergeant provides administrative support, customer service, and assistance to the Sergeant's Office during Senate floor session and legislative meetings. Activities may include, but are not limited to, maintaining decorum in the Senate chamber and meeting rooms, providing office services, and distributing documents.

    During Legislative Session this position will be expected to work longer hours.

    Position Responsibilities

    • Maintain decorum in meeting rooms and the Senate Chamber.
    • Identify and admit authorized people onto the Senate floor and committee rooms.
    • Assist with answering phones and covering the Sergeant's office and providing customer service at the front window.
    • Assemble and move furniture and rearrange offices as requested.
    • Fill orders for supplies and distribute supplies for Senate offices.

    Minimum Qualification

    High school or college graduate.

    In addition to the qualifications listed above, applicants must demonstrate the ability to:

    • Lift up to 30-50lbs.
    • Stand for long periods at a time.
    • Communicate clearly to Senate staff, Members, constituents, and lobbyists.

    Preferred Qualification

    • Experience monitoring and providing security for larger events.
    • Knowledge of legislative procedures and chamber protocol.
    • Experience working under pressure while managing multiple work tasks.
