    REPORTS TO: Communications Supervisor

    Minimum salary is $54,205/annually (Salary will be set commensurate with experience)

    This position will be onsite in the Minnesota Senate Building and Capitol.

    Position Summary

    The Media Relations Specialist serves as a liaison between members of the Majority Senate caucus and the media. The primary responsibility of this position is to support Minnesota GOP Senators through writing and editing press releases, speeches, columns, OpEds, and other communications under the direction of the Communications Supervisor.

    During Legislative Session this position will be expected to work longer hours with the ability to earn additional paid time off.

    Position Responsibilities

    • Support Majority caucus Senators with individualized communications plans through writing and editing press releases, speeches, columns, and OpEds.
    • Works closely with Senators on social media dashboards, radio, TV, and other communications.
    • Serves as a liaison between members of the Majority caucus and their local media.
    • Assist the Communications Supervisor in crafting caucus messaging, strategy, and talking points.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Digital Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing, or related area of study.

    OR

    Three (3) years of related experience in advertising, digital media, video, audio, public relations, market research, writing, journalism, or related.

    OR

    Three (3) years of legislative experience.

    In addition to the qualifications listed above, applicants must demonstrate:

    • Strong oral and written communications skills.
    • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
    • Ability to perform work with minimal supervision.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge and understanding of the legislative process.
    • Knowledge of state and local government issues.
    • Familiarity with social media platforms, including Facebook.
    • Ability to accept responsibility, follow directions, and perform assigned tasks.
    • Ability to exercise good judgment and maintain discretion.
    • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with legislators, legislative staff, executive branch personnel, media personnel, lobbyists, and the public.
