    Committee Legislative Assistant – Rules Committee (GOP Caucus)

    REPORTS TO: Legislative Support Supervisor

    Minimum salary is $39,634 plus Committee stipend per Senate policy included (Salary will be set commensurate with experience)

    Position Summary

    The purpose of this position is to assist in the day-to-day operations by providing individualized technical and administrative support to an assigned Senator. The Committee Legislative Assistant is also responsible for the day-to-day operations of the assigned committee including but not limited to coordinating with the assigned Committee Administrator, partisan Research staff, Senate Counsel, partisan Legislative Assistant staff, Senate Media, partisan Media, and lobbyists.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Manage Committee hearing materials and documentation for Senate Committee Members and staff.    
    • Provide administrative support and constituent services to the Senator's office to produce an accurate, organized, and well-flowing office.
    • Assist Committee Administrators with hearing notices, hearing agendas, printing, organizing Committee documents, and directing Interns and Pages on organizing Committee folders.
    • Manage Committee minutes, mark with call, order, and adjournment times, discussion notes, vote outcomes, bill actions (i.e. amendments or movement to another Committee or floor), and testifier information.
    • Maintain the Senator's calendar by scheduling appointments, floor sessions, Committee hearings, and constituent services in the respected district.
    • Maintain office communication by managing voice messages, talking to constituents, lobbyists and other general calls, and taking clear notes and messages while on the phone.
    • Organize the Senator's Bills by providing a physical copy of each bill in a folder file system including any notes or handouts the Senator may have for each bill.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Degree in Political Science, Communications, Public Administration, Social Science, Public Policy, Business Administration, or related area of study.

    OR

    One (1) year of experience as listed below.

    EXPERIENCE SHOULD INCLUDE: One (1) Legislative session serving in any capacity, State Government, Policy Advocacy, Community Organization, Customer Service, Administrative Support, Service in the Military, or related.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge and understanding of the legislative process.
    • Exceptional interpersonal communication and organizational skills to sufficiently manage a Senator's calendar, email, phone, social media, and constituent correspondence.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Publisher, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel), Google Calendar, and Intranet Quorum (IQ).
    • Ability to work long hours, meet deadlines, and stay composed under pressure.
    • Flexibility to changes in scheduling demands, legislative priorities, and other duties as assigned.
