    Job Description

    The Volunteer Coordinator plays an essential role in ensuring a positive and educational experience for our students and members of the debate community, through the recruitment, vetting, and support of volunteers. This position requires bilingual communication (speaking, reading, and writing) skills in Spanish and English.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Volunteer recruitment in the Twin Cities metro area: refine recruitment materials, engage with potential volunteers through digital communications and in-person events, manage background checks.
    • Volunteer training and management: train volunteers as debate judges, ensuring readiness and positive experiences; manage background checks and onboarding. Track volunteers in salesforce.
    • Enhance engagement: foster volunteer commitment through gratitude, surveys, and recognition strategies, including video messages.
    • Tournament logistics: Coordinate judge training, manage event execution, organize and transport tournament supplies, and handle payments for paid volunteers.
    • Reporting and collaboration: Provide ongoing event-specific volunteer reporting, supervise student workers, and collaborate on grant-related reporting and donor connections.
    • Spanish translation: translate all volunteer and family engagement materials for our Spanish debate program.
    • Community relationships: Manage family engagement and collaborate with school personnel for volunteer verification.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Oversee student employees focused on community engagement for our Spanish and East African debate programs
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bilingual Communicator (speaking, reading, writing) in English and Spanish
    • Personal vehicle and license for transportation
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • At least one (1) year of relevant experience
    • Able to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse work environment
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision
    • Detail-oriented

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Associates or Bachelor’s degree
    • Three (3) years work experience
    • Proven ability to provide great customer service through responsive and clear communication
    • Demonstrated ability to improve workflows and manage multiple projects
    • Experience with Salesforce or other databases.
    • Able to reason/analyze

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    • The work environment is dynamic; there will be a mix of work at Augsburg University, on location at tournament sites (primarily middle and high schools in the metro area), as well as attending community events.
    • Position will include occasional evening or weekend hours related to tournaments.
    • Regular computer use
    • Occasional lifting or carrying items up to 20 lbs.
