    The Minority Cannabis Business Association (MCBA) seeks a Communications Manager with the ability to create and implement an integrated internal and external communication strategy. Duties include managing external communication channels including social media platforms, company website, and media relations, event marketing, op-eds, and newsletters.

    Founded in 2015, MCBA is the first national trade association created to serve the specific needs of minority cannabis businesses and our communities. Our mission is to create equal access for cannabis businesses and economic empowerment for our communities by creating policy considerations, social programming, and outreach initiatives to achieve equity for the communities most affected by the war on drugs.

    Responsibilities

    The Communications Manager is responsible for the following internal and external communications tasks:

    • Assist association leadership with developing and implementing comprehensive internal and external communications strategies.

    • Event marketing and promotion.

    • Manage social media and website teams.

    • Draft and timely disseminate press releases.

    • Manage, track, and increase earned media.

    • Member Newsletters and updates.

    • Assist MCBA leadership with other communications tasks including: Proposals, One-pagers, Fact sheets, White papers, Board reports, and Annual reports



    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 4+ years of communications, editorial, or marketing experience.

    • 2+ years of corporate or nonprofit communications experience.

    • Associates or bachelor’s degree in communications, business, or political science preferred.

    • Excellent demonstrated written communications and editorial skills.

    • Experience with policy, advocacy, or political communications strongly preferred.

    • Project management experience with a track record of timely and successful execution.

    • The ability to work independently and take initiative to fulfill the responsibilities of the position and the mission of the Association.

    • Experience or demonstrated interest in legislation or policy related to cannabis legalization, criminal justice reform, or economic empowerment.

    • Ability to handle multiple projects with attention to detail.

     

    Hours: 20 - 40 hours per week

    Compensation: $24 - 28 / hour

    This position is contract based & remote. Washington, DC-area candidate preferred.
