    Job Description

    MAINTENANCE WORKER I/II (PHS):

    This is physical work maintaining grounds, structures, and equipment at Roaring River State Park, Big Sugar Creek State Park and Viney Creek Recreation Area. The work involves both heavy and light physical labor in a wide range of park maintenance activities.  Duties include but are not limited to: assist with installation and maintenance of water & sewer lines; perform routine electrical and plumbing repairs; routine repairs to machinery, internal combustion engines and HVAC systems and preventative maintenance on vehicle and equipment fleet.  Daily cleaning of pit latrines, restrooms, shower houses, and picnic areas.  Operate riding mowers all day, tractors, front skid steer loader, trucks, chain saws, and similar mechanical equipment.  Position helps with the daily operation, reporting, and maintenance of wastewater systems and public drinking water distribution system.  Perform and assist with the construction, maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and other facilities.  Other duties include meet the public and give information concerning park facilities rules and regulations.  Receives general administrative direction in regard to routine work assignments and is provided specific instructions and close supervision on new assignments.  Perform other related work as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – MAINTENANCE WORKER I:

    One or more years of experience in one or a combination of the following: construction, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical (heating and cooling, refrigeration, welding, engine repair, etc.) trades; grounds keeping work; farm work including the operation of farm machinery and/or construction of structures/enclosures; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

    (Training in a formal program of instruction from an accredited school in one or more of the building, mechanical, or electrical trades may substitute for the required experience at a rate of 3 high school credit hours, 30 earned credit hours, or 480 clock hours for one year.)

    OR

    2000 verifiable hours of experience with Missouri’s Division of State Parks as a seasonal worker and/or State Park Youth Corps participant performing grounds keeping and/or maintenance duties; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – MAINTENANCE WORKER II (PHS): 

    Two or more years of experience as a Maintenance Worker I (Park/Historic Sites) with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

    OR

    Three or more years of experience in one or a combination of the following: construction, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical (heating and cooling, refrigeration, welding, engine repair, etc.) trades; farm work including the operation of farm machinery and/or construction of structures/enclosures; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

    (Training in a formal program of instruction from an accredited school in one or more of the building, mechanical, or electrical trades may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the required experience at a rate of 3 high school credit hours, 30 earned credit hours, or 480 clock hours for one year.)

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS – MAINTENANCE WORKER I/II (PHS):

    Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

    By assignment, ability to obtain appropriate commercial operator’s license, water/wastewater certifications, and/or other required licenses/certifications required by position.

    Able to walk on uneven terrain for extended periods of time, lift and load 50-75 pound objects repeatedly, walk and work on roofs, and climb ladders. Operate equipment for extend timeframes, such as mowers, string trimmers and backpack blowers for 40 hour weeks.  Ability to work in rugged terrain to perform routine duties and/or assist with controlled burns or wildfire situations.
