    Job Description

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    Missouri State Parks is committed to providing opportunities for all Missourians to access the tremendous recreational resources, significant historic landmarks, and outstanding natural landscapes that make up the Missouri State Park system. The Outreach & Engagement Coordinator serves to increase engagement and access to these resources for urban and underrepresented communities throughout the state, to develop and implement statewide engagement initiatives, and to support facility-specific outreach, engagement and accessibility efforts at all state parks and historic sites.

    JOB DUTIES:

    Development of an engagement and inclusion strategic plan that identifies barriers, outreach strategies and an implementation process for promoting Missouri State Parks to underserved communities.

    Development and implementation of outreach and engagement initiatives and other programming that target communities and audiences in underserved areas in Missouri.

    Coordination with organizations and stakeholder groups that represent diverse audiences, in an effort to promote program offerings and other recreational opportunities at state parks and historic sites.

    Assistance to parks and historic sites in identifying underrepresented stakeholders in their regions, as well as identifying solutions to address barriers that may inhibit use or participation in facility activities.

    Guidance and direction to park and historic site staff in developing programming that appeals to all audiences, as well as providing support for and promoting existing events and programs that focus on underrepresented audiences.

    Facilitation of diversity and engagement training and workshops for staff.

    Coordination with the Special Event Coordinator and Interpretive Resource Coordinator to plan and implement statewide special events.

    Oversight of the outreach, engagement and programming initiatives in the Kansas City and St. Louis Urban Outreach offices, as well as supervision of the Kansas City and St. Louis Urban Outreach office staff.

    Management of an annual budget to ensure purchases and expenditures are within budgeted amounts. Project annual needs and expenditures. Propose budget changes as needed. Provide oversight of the Kansas City and St. Louis Urban Outreach office budgets.

     

    In addition to the degrees listed below, applicants will be considered eligible if they have achieved other educational degrees, such as graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Multicultural and Diversity Studies, Community Studies, Social Work or a closely related field.

    Qualifications

    A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 15 earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following: Parks and Recreation, Natural Sciences, History, Art or Music History, Anthropology, Archaeology, Museum Studies, Park Management, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Fisheries, Biology, Botany, Engineering, Public Relations, Marketing, Education, Business or Public Administration, Law Enforcement, or a closely related field; and,

    Four or more years of experience in parks and recreation, park or historic site operation/maintenance, cultural resource preservation, natural resource management, natural resource promotion/education, marketing, business management, environmental education, engineering, or a closely related area.

    (Earned graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the specified areas may substitute on a year-for-year basis for a maximum of two years of the required experience at a rate of 24 earned graduate credit hours for one year of experience.)

    (Additional qualifying experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for deficiencies in the required education.)
